Ex smackhead off and on for 17 yrs (more on than off, sadly) here. Been clean for about 7 years, with only a couple wee slips...totally clean for about 4. Dunno how I did it, really...just decided one day it was too much work and I was over it. And thus far, I am; I'm pretty sure for good, but I wouldn't want to be so arrogant as to say "never". Didn't do any program or anything the time I finally quit for good, just a good ol' fashioned cold-turkey detox and that was that. (Not to say those don't work...they just don't work for me.)

So...yeah. Cool to know this group is here. Hope everyone's doin' ok. :)

4. I don't come here often

I'm still not comfortable with mixing recovery and politics, but I guess this doesn't, does it? I'm pissed at a couple of "AA is a cult posts" I don't respond, 'cause it's just a pointless arguement. I ran over here to tend to my poor hurt feelings. Anyway, HORRIBLE alcoholic, ended up with nothing, I've been clean and sober for 15 years this month. Went to school from ground zero, and am now a nurse. I sobered up in a smoke filled, noisy, AA hall filled with bikers, bank robbers,prostitutes, cops and lawyer--just to point out the variety. (It has quite a reputation) No rules. Just the "stay sober one day a time" advice' Didn't tell me I had to believe in God, 'work' the steps right away, any of that shit. Just let me be, and be there. I love seeing people who get to change their lives, because trust me, they are the exception when dealing with addiction. Anyway, welcome. I fell better now.
