OK, let's say a newbie calls you |
|
Edited on Sun Aug-05-07 06:43 PM by AZDemDist6
this particular 'newbie' has been hanging around for a couple years and can't string 30 days together, but bless her, she keeps coming back...
anyway
this newbie calls and wants to rant about how messed up the old timers are in the meetings and how men suck and how f%^&ed up her life is, so you make a couple suggestions of what you did when you were new, and the newbie continues to rant and finally you say "I don't know what you want from me here" and the newbie gets pissed and hangs up on you.
then two hours later same call, same rant about the meetings and you stop them and say "You hung up on me a couple hours ago and I thought that was very rude, I'd like an apology from you since I don't allow people to treat me like that today."
and the newbie hangs up on you again!
were you out of line?
edit to add

1. No, I would say you were not out of line. |
|
Just because you are an oldtimer does not mean she has the right to run roughshod all over the boundaries that you respectfully set.

I don't "feel" like an oldtimer either.
And because of that, I plan on attending ICYPAA at the end of this month.

5. it sounds like exactly what she needs |
|
good for you, and good for you for caring enough about her to set those boundaries. If she's been enabled to behave this way thus far, it's no wonder her clean time is spotty. It sounds like if you keep dealing with her you will have to have some hardcore boundaries in place...which is probably just what she needs. That is a very touching post, actually, it's so clear through reading that how we get in our own way sometimes.

she's so angry and blames everyone else why her life is a wreck, but is insistent she refuses to do what is suggested
we suggest she get a sponsor and call her every day and she insists she will never call anyone every day, she never has and never will!
what are you gonna do?

she called tonight and asked for a few moments of my time and apologized for being rude.
I was thrilled to chat with her for a half hour or so

Hi AZDem!
That's a step in the right direction.
My sponsor is tough!
She didn't want to hear squat about how screwed up " the other people" were. It all came back to "what are you going to do?"
She finally asked me,
" are you willing to do whatever it takes to get sober?"
anything other than a "yes", was followed with
" call me when you want to get sober".
It worked!
Yeah, she's that tough- but a real sweetie, too.
:hi:
