I have had a heck of a couple of months |
|
I came the closest I have in several years to taking a drink. Stress at work got way overboard due to a gang fight, including tazering, in my class. I got through that rough day and other stress and have celebrated my 40th birthday. I still am amazed at where I am today. I am a respected professional, mostly out at work, and now am the faculty advisor for my school's gay straight alliance. Not bad for someone who a decade or so ago didn't think he would make 40. Recovery is good. My worst day sober, is better than nearly all my days drinking. Now if I could just get my personal life in order lol.

I've been following your story in GLBT and you're right, you've had a heck of a couple months but seem to have handled it very well considering all the chit that was flying!

Ironically, I have been very open about being in recovery, something alot of people might hold against people but I wasn't so open about being gay. Truth be told I am kind of glad, actually very glad, it is over with.

9. nah dude, you're hitting second stage recovery and should be stepping out easy |
|
5-7 are tough years and when our bodies actually release the booze your brain and spinal column stored up in the years of drinking.
after 7 years you are truly 'clean and sober' and have probably hit a wall and worked past it and now it's a cruise for the next several years
enjoy them! :hi:

I heard in early recovery that "Serenity is not the absence of the storm, but rather the calm WITHIN the storm"
I can honestly say I understand that today.
Life is good.

All things aside, Congratulations! I'm really glad you made it through your difficulties. You have come such a long way even in the few years I've known you. Just more and more confident and self-assured all the time. It's bound to make it's way to your personal life sooner or later.
Happy Holidays!

I am painfully shy in that kind of setting which doesn't help. But thanks for the compliment.

I'm glad you made it through, sober.
I remember a few times in sobriety when that next drink was calling my name!
The only thing that stood between us was my belief in a HP.
I'm so glad you are in recovery. You've been dealing with a lot.
Welcome to our little group here.
