Gods damn it! I need some of those DU vibes.
I'd felt under the weather for about a week: tired, headachy. Had a yeast infection that just wouldn't quit, and suddenly getting very thirsty all the time. So when the local drugstore was offering a free screening today, I asked them to check my blood sugar.
It was off the damned wall. They wanted me to go to the ER, but I have no insurance. So I'm gonna park my butt on my doctor's doorstep tomorrow morning. I've never had high blood sugar before. Sure I'm fat, but so is everyone in my family, and none of them have ever had diabetes. Not only am I an alcoholic, but I have to get diabetic on top of it? I hope they let me take shots: it's cheaper, and the damned pills have awful side effects.
Am absolutely not going to drink over this - I'm not freaking suicidal. But I hate the taste of diet soda.
Sigh. Bring on the black coffee.

5. Well I've had a few days to get used to the idea |
|
And sometimes it helps to be an Internet junkie. I've been cruising the 'net looking at diets and treatments, and you know what? It's doable. It's not rocket science or brain surgery*. I've already seen my doctor, and she ordered a bunch of tests to see how I stand. She called me back, and I'm a diabetic all right, but the values weren't as bad as I feared. Tomorrow I see her to get started on treatment.
And I've discovered there's a sugar-free version of Almond Roca for when I'm desperate for chocolate. Life is good.
*Ever wonder what rocket scientists and brain surgeons use as a metaphor for something difficult? Me too.
