Compared to today, yeasterday was easy. for whatever reason, the shakes weren't awful yesterday. Today, I tried to part my daugher's hair in a straight line and couldn't do it. Too shaky. And, people noticed. No one said anything, but you know the looks. Yesterday, I jsut wanted to sleep for a thousand hours. Today, I'm anxious. And, I'm in a dry house and can't find or buy anything. So I just have to sit here and fret. Not this second. Not this minute. That's as far as I will go right now. But, boy, am I anxious.
Thanks everyone for reading. Whether you respond or not, I need your good vibes. I'm out of town this weekend, so it makes things a little easier. Next week will be a real bitch.

psst, PS
once you're a pickle, you never go back to being a cucumber ;)
but you can take away the brine and dry out
just hang in there, see if your hosts have any honey in the cupboard. and call the local AA number if you can find it, it's usually listed in the phone book. they'll talk to you.

2. Amelie, milk is your friend. |
|
I got that tip from an old timer when I was in a detox in Santa Monica.
My shakes were so bad, I could hardly hold anything long enough to eat or drink.
My friend gave me some milk in a commuter cup. ( Alkies are so damn resourceful!-:-) )
It really helped.I drank three to four cups a day.
Hang in there!

5. Chocolate Milk got me through some hard times |
|
There were days when I couldn't keep food down but, for whatever reason, was able to drink chocolate milk.

4. Breathe in... breathe out.... |
|
Breathe in.... breathe out... breathe in.... breathe out. Say it to yourself as you do it.
That is, literally, how I got through some of my detox days. I had the shakes and the anxiety and the sweats (not to mention the puking -- have I mentioned the puking?) The anxiety made me pace the house like a caged animal. I wore holes in my shoes and gave myself heel cracks.
But at the end of the three days of hell, there is... sleep. Real sleep. Eating again rocks too. All of those things that we don't do as addicts -- sleeping, eating healthy, having sane relationships -- well, they're what real life is all about.
I thought I couldn't live without wine. Now I wonder how I lived with it.
Hang in there, and BREATHE. That is all that is required of you at this moment. Breathe. You can make it, one moment at a time.
Much love.
MBD.
