| Wherever I think I am in life, it always turns out someone has it worse |
|
I've been in meetings where I've heard about women whose partner smashed their heads against a car window, another who was disabled, yet beaten and raped.
I just got an email from a good friend of mine who I haven't seen in probably 20 years.
I knew her in college - she was about 7 years older than me, and a very close friend. Her first husband beat her, abused her, raped her, and controlled her. When they went out to the store she had to keep her eyes looking at the floor so as to not look at other males. Somehow she got away from him, raised her daughter (and son) by herself, and put herself through college. She always picks up and keeps forging ahead. She remarried, to a tall police officer (she herself is fairly short), so I'm guessing that was as much security as she could get.
In this email - first I've heard from her in years - apparently this last year has been very tough. Her step-daughter died from leukemia, while 5 months pregnant. Her son was badly burned in an accident at work barely a month later, and to top it off she just found out her husband has been cheating on her off and on for the last TEN YEARS.
I've been through a lot of shit, but invariably I find someone whose been through stuff that makes my stuff seem petty by comparison.
Wherever I think I am in life, it always turns out someone has it worse.

| 1. Tab, that is one of the things |

I find when I go to meetings, also.
There are so many people out there who have it much worse than I do.
Hearing them share really helps me regain some perspective of my life.
Perspective is something I lose, over and over again.
That's another reason I need to keep going to meetings.

| 2. And somebody has it worse than her, and somebody even worse yet... |
|
Well it can't go on forever, but practically everybody can look around and find a worse example.
