AODA kids and their families. I was wondering if anyone knew of any new types of treatment available to these children (pilot programs etc.) because the sometimes confrontational and overly structured nature of inpatient AODA seems to set many of these kids up for failure. Any input would be greatly appreciated, since I work with a variety of populations in my position, AODA is kind of new to me.
Thanks much, mcctatas

And got Ancient Order of Druids in America - I presume you mean Alcohol and Other Drugs of Abuse. What kind of dual diagnosis are you talking about: ADD, OCD, bipolar, schizophrenia, what? My own feeling is that confrontation rarely works for anyone. I went through IOP, and remember that attempts at confronting participants were more likely to harden their attitudes than to get them to accept help.

back door approach always has worked well for me, but I think that every therapist has to kind of develop their own style. If you are a bad ass kinda guy, or gal, it might be a shock to see a soft pedal approach.
I worked with some veterans for a while, and they were only comfortable if I was cussing their ass out. Or some of them were I should say.
