Feeling sorry for myself. |
|
I'm staying on the straight-and-narrow and trying to focusing on doing the next right thing. I've made some pretty hard choices lately that I think are for the best for my recovery, but I think I'm falling into a bit of an emotional slump so I just wanted to check in and say hi.
Hope everyone here is doing well

call a newbie, call an oldtimer, call your mother.
call somebody and get grateful (that's what I do, YMMV)

Law school has me busier than...well something that's really busy (they didn't let me in for my wit, apparently). I think that's probably part of the problem - I will call someone though.

8. I can well imagine arid cerebral , such as legal studies, would require, |
|
being a real hindrance. Those calls will surely help. The right side of your brain can "come up for some air".

2. Self pity was the thing that kept me immobilized. |
|
It is like a drug that paralyzes you. It was one of the first things I had to change about myself. Yes sir, I was a self pity hog.
       Does this help?
Go to a meeting. I'm going to do the same.

4. I would, except there's just three a week here... |
|
and the next one's been canceled on account of out meeting space being inaccessible for the time being.
And yes, it does help :D

This book has a thought for every day of the year. My therapist recommended it back when I only had a few weeks of sobriety. It really helped me to deal with the emotional slumps like you're talking about. http://www.amazon.com/Twenty-Four-Hours-Day-Reprint/dp/0894868349/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233405053&sr=8-1

My sponsor gave me this book early in my sobriety.
It really helped me.

My suggestion ( which is straight from my sponsor) is to write a gratitude list.
It's hard getting started, but once you start writing it, you find more and more to be grateful for.
This really helps me when I'm in a slump.
Hope you feel better.

11. The writing it part is important isn't it? I try gratitude lists in my head and |
|
my attention strays. I've been in a bit of a slump, too. I think I need to put pen to paper.
Thank you! :hi:

There is something about getting it down on paper that unscrambles the confusion in the head.
( if that makes any sense- LOL)
You are very welcome.
