I'm thinking of going to monthly weigh-ins. |
|
Since I do WW Online, there's no penalty for not weighing in weekly. My progress has been extremely slow and since I have no plans to quit doing WW, even WHEN I reach goal, I don't need to see a loss each week to keep me motivated. In fact, seeing a very small loss or even a gain makes it harder for me than not weighing in at all. I'm thinking I'd rather see a loss of four or five pounds all at once than in drips and drabs.
Any downside to weighing monthly? Thanks! :hi:

is the way to go really. If you're committed to what you're doing there is no need to weigh in weekly. I'm obsessed with my scale, almost to the point of my husband taking it away. I fret when I see no movement and panic if the numbers go UP at all!! I'll get over it, I know, .. I never owned a scale before and I guess I got hooked on seeing the numbers go down ALL the time. I'm trying really hard to wean myself off of it. This week I only weighed 3 times!
I don't see ANY downside at all to you weighing in once a month!
best wishes. aA

I used to be a strong defender of daily weigh-ins but I realize now that this is because I was losing so, more often than not, it was encouraging.
But I've reached a time in my life when I can be patient. Thanks! :hi:

2. Monthly sounds good, Longhorn |
|
The only thing that I would caution against is the school of thought where you basically toss out your scale, I've subscribed to that before and THAT is when the weight has really snuck up on me. "Go by how your clothes fit" didn't work for me, because there's a 20 pound range where I'm still the same size! Granted, I wasn't following a plan, just eating like I thought was normal.
But weighing once a month while doing WW sounds excellent to me, best of luck to you. :)

Yes, I regained most of this last bit of weight by ignoring the scales and *crossing my fingers.* That approach clearly didn't work! Of course, I wasn't following any kind of a plan like I am now. Thanks! :hi:

3. Weigh-ins are a set-up for discouragement. |

Although it's a hassle, I prefer to do it this way. I weigh myself every morning after using the john, before eating, in a pair of pants and t-shirt for consistency. Then at the end of the week, I figure the average of the 7 days and plot that on my chart. It really gives you a better idea of your progress than just taking a sample once a week or whatever because your weight can rise or fall by 2 or 3 pounds in a day, but it's just a blip and goes back the next, especially if you're tall like me.
Looking at my chart of the last 3 months, the line is smooth and downward, no sudden upward spikes to create discouragement.
I'm down from 275 to 220 today. (although my average weight for the week is still 222 :))
In your case, weighing weekly and making a monthly average might be good?

5. I had forgotten that I used to do something similar. |
|
I weighed myself daily and only recorded losses -- my "new low," as I called it. I would do that again if losses showed up more frequently but I'm just getting tired of day after day -- even week after week with no losses.
What I've been doing lately is just getting on once every couple of weeks, especially at times when I "feel" like I might show a loss.
Congratulations on losing 50-plus pounds! :hi:

I go by measurements and clothing size.
Those show up before weight loss for me.
Of course, the real reason I don't weigh is because I was anorexic as a teen. Besides shooting my metabolism to Hell, the experience ruined me for weighing for the rest of my life. Scales are bad news for me.
Whatever works for you is what you should do! :hi:

6. The only reason I need to weigh at all |
|
is that on WW, your daily points depend on your weight. I'm at 26 daily points and I think that will go down when I go below 200 (I'm at 206 right now.) I think the points adjust every 20 pounds. Other than that, my weight really doesn't matter. It's just nice to see some progress, whether it's on the scales or in my clothing.
Constant dieting has messed me up pretty good, too. I lost 60 pounds on a liquid diet three years ago and as fun as it was to lose quickly (I was still one of the slower losers on the plan,) it's no fun gaining it back. No more quick-loss schemes for me!
Thanks for you input! :hi:
