Question about disappointing food. |

Tell me I'm not the only person who does this:
I promised myself a lovely dinner out, with moderate overage of calories. I went to a new sushi bar nearby; customer reviews had it as "one of the best in the area" and "best outside of Japan." The experience was disappointing to say the least. The edamame was obvioulsy frozen and a bit freezerburned, the roe was tough and not that tasty, and the squid was only marginal. The ambiance was pretty blah and the service was blah too.
So now I am having a really hard time restraining myself from going to eat the leftover pizza in the fridge. I mean, I wanna gorge gorge gorge! And I'm just like, "Why does it work like that -- I had bad food so I want to go fill myself up with MORE bad food?" How does that work again? This is bizarre! Tell me I'm not the only one who does this!

I have the warped mindset that I am rewarding myself for having such a bad meal. By going to have ANOTHER meal that might taste good, but would UNDOUBTEDLY be absolutely BAD for me! perhaps its skewed wiring or something that makes us have these tendencies, but trust me, you're not the only one who feels this way.
Are you tired at all? Can you go to sleep? One thing that does help me when I am still hungry, and helps me avoid eating something really bad for me, is to have an Atkins Shake. They are high in protein and low in carbs, and very filling. plus, they are yummy chocolate, so it makes me feel like I had something sweet, and fills me up, and helps me get to tomorrow morning, when I can start over again....

But unfortunately we lost a special election so I went to the fridge anyway. On the bright side I stopped myself after only about 4 bites!

I get cravings for foods and I talk my husband into going out for dinner. We go out, I order what I 'think' I want and bam! I can't eat it. Some days I'm so hungry and I am able to eat anything, other days I'm hungry and nothing goes down well at all. I KNOW it's not the same as what you're experiencing at all, but it is a frustration of mine. I end up taking home a doggie bag and husband eats it later.
I think the gorging part you speak of is akin to maybe rewarding yourself .. a pity party if you will, you didn't get satisfaction from what you wanted, so you'll get it somewhere else? I used to do that.

and they have a menu that lists fat and carbs and the like so i always know i can eat something good and good for me, so we go and i'm so hungry, i skip the bread and wait for my entree. I ordered the chicken i normally get but this time it was awful, really dry and the vegetables looked old, the carrots had white streaks in them like they had freezer burn, the whole mean was awful. We ended up at starbucks later where i got a carmel macchiato with soy milk, yeah i could have skipped it but it was the least bad thing i could think to have at the time. I was really annoyed i skipped having the bread.

One time I tried a new meal at Olive Garden that was not very good at all. (Portabello Tortellinis..I wanted to swallow them whole just to get rid of them) We ended up getting free dessert because my friend's food came out so late..and I went to town on the dessert. I don't normally eat dessert. Just because of the bad food.

Often, I'll have something that will fill me up...I always have some large apples on hand. Or if I'm still really hungry, then I'll open up a can of beans, and have some. (high fibre, fills me up quickly)Possibly a salad.
I don't want to resist the cravings, but don't want to eat a lot of calories, either. :-)
