They're amazing. I just discovered them. Though the all-shiratake kind have no calories or carbs, most people recommend the tofu kind that have 20 calories and 3 carbs per portion. I tried that kind because it's all they had at the Japanese grocery.
After washing and parboiling them for a couple minutes, I put them on a plate and poured on some good pasta sauce. It was just like eating ... pasta! The noodles have no taste, look just like regular pasta, and their texture, though a tiny bit rubbery, is still pasta-like. They're a real miracle find for anyone trying to lose weight and still enjoy a variety of foods.
Have you tried them?

| 1. I'll have to look for them |

sounds like they'd be good. No protein though or is there? I wonder if a regular supermarket might have them in their 'ethnic' food section. I love pasta, it doesn't like me too much.
aA thanks :hi:

| 2. what are the shiratake kind made out of? |
|
I hope that's not a stupid question, with an answer like 'they're made out of shiratake'! Ha- that may well be the answer, in which case, my next question is, 'what is shiratake?' No calories or carbs? woohoo! I'm definitely going to look for these. I've been eating rice noodles, and these aren't any different really, calorie-wise than regular pasta.

| 5. I have been wishing for a low/no carb noodle for quite a while! |
|
I feel much better restricting my carbs, but not being able to eat pasta once in awhile is a drag.
I did find rice, polenta, and spelt flour pastas because I get a lot of bloating from wheat products, but I also like limiting the carbs as well....
I will definitely look for these here too!
Thanks for this info.
