I joined weight watchers yesterday..... |
|
My doctor told me I should lose about 50 pounds. I have high cholesterol and have gained a lot of weight in the past year.
It is really hard to exercise since I have fibromaygia, but I have been forcing myself to walk about a mile with my dogs when the weather is nice. It has rained for the past two days and I have just wanted to curl up in bed from the pain.
My biggest hurdle will be to abandon chinese food. I LOVE CHINESE FOOD. I can eat it everyday.
Today I will order steamed chicken and broccoli. I can't seem to figure out the points on that for weight watchers, so if anyone has any ideas, please send them my way.
Thanks

I love chinese food too- and there are a lot of healthy dishes to choose from. Do you cook at all? Stir-frys are so easy to make, and you can control the ingredients and additives that way. Weight Watchers has several cookbooks available at Barnes & Nobles or Borders. I feel certain that they have a Chinese one. Also, you might want to look at some Cooking Light cookbooks or on their website for recipes. They have all the counts with each recipe, so you can keep up with what you are eating.
There are several posters here that are also participating in the Weight Watchers program. They will be a good source of info and help for you.
Good to have you here! :hi:

3. How did I miss this? Welcome Malta Blue!! |

I don't know anything useful about weight watchers at all. I did however want to offer my support in your endeavour :)
Don't overdo the exercise to the point that you're in pain. If you're not enjoying it to some degree you're likely to abandon it altogether. What about water aerobics? Could you join a Y or something they used to have great water aerobic programs and that's so easy on your body. NO impact at all.
best of luck to you

7. I've lost 25 pounds with WW since Thanksgiving |
|
Our chinese takeout place offers a diet menu, just meat and vegetables steamed with spices. Maybe yours has something like that too. I never even noticed that option until I started dieting.

Should have the points on a lot of basic foods in the back. A chicken breast without skin is 3 pts, and you would have to eat a lot of broccoli to be even a point. If they gave you steamed rice, that is 4 pts for a cup.
WW is a great program!

I have lost 22 pounds so far.
I am having a BAD week and have used all my flex points. They don't reset until Monday, so I am going to be in a world of hurt. But it was sooo hot this week, that I could not bring myself to cook (I have no AC) and we ended up going out.
And tonight I am having ice cream - even though I broke down and hit a vending machine at work today too.
Anyhooo - I realize this week is a wash, but I am determined to get right back on it.
Thanks for the support :grouphug:

10. steamed chicken and broccoli should be good |
|
Go light on the sauce. That first 1/2 cup of broccoli will be zero points. Give yourself one point for every 1/2 cup beyond that. Don't go above 1 1/2 cuts in one sitting, if possible.
On the chicken: If it is steamed or grilled, think about a deck of cards. About that much chicken will be roughly three points.
You'll have to estimate what to give yourself for any sauce. If I were you, I'd avoid it or just stick with soy sauce.
I forget the points values for different kinds of rice, but they are in the Weight Watchers books.
Weight Watchers is all about knowing what you are eating and how much. That means using measuring cups and a food scale at home. It also could mean bringing a measuring cup to the restaurant one time to measure the serving size of your favorite dish.
Trust me, it'll work. Ive lost 70 pounds since last fall by following the Weight Watchers plan.
