| What helps me maintain my weight |
|
Like everyone else, I slip, and fall back into unhealthy eating patterns from time to time. But what helps me the most is to remember that eating is not the source of my problem. It is the result of a much larger problem. If I concentrate solely on my eating, I will ultimately fail. I have to not only know what's "eating" me, but I must make a commitment to resolve it.
The next thing which helps me is to remember that healthy, balanced eating is not a matter of exercising "Will Power." Will power really doesn't work. It is a matter of knowing that after a certain point I'm not just "overindulging," but I'm trying to hurt myself, to sabotage my progress. So I stop trying to "will" myself to stop eating, and ask myself what it is I'm trying not feel, or know. But most of all, I ask myself what I'm trying to get around doing. Usually, when I binge, there is a life change I'm avoiding and the binge helps me create an additional problem which I can use to avoid a change that is essential to my well-being. Any change essential to one's well-being, is a change that will also decrease the need to binge. Usually the change needed DOES NOT involve someone else doing anything. It has to do with me doing everything I can do to bring about the necessary change. This is enough to circumvent a serious binge. After that, the external conditions that need to exist to support the life change seem to have a way of taking care of themselves.
The final thing that I am going to mention here is having a purpose in life. Having something I am doing to effect change not only for myself, but for others as well. Working to know and change the things in myself that need to be changed uncovered all my untapped ability, and an abundant compassion and desire to help and love others. This helps tremendously with my ability to maintain healthy eating, diet, fasting, and exercise.
Thank you. So glad you're here.

Would you mind if I save your post to a Word Document on my computer, so I can re-read it when I feel the need to binge? I haven't had a chance to read your post on self-healing yet, but I imagine I will want to save that one as well; would that be ok with you?
You write and express yourself beautifully.... what a gift. :hi:
