I like to cook for myself at least some of the time, I live alone so I only have myself to please, and I live in NYC, where there is a wide assortment of interesting takeout when I don't want to cook. I'm not a big green vegetable eater, so that's been the biggest stretch for me. I eat carrots, tomatoes, beets and squash but not lettuce, broccoli or peppers. Not eating salad can be a real problem, so I have to work around it.
The thing that has made me successful with this program is being able to negotiate with my rebellious inner child, which my women's group leader calls my little girl. There are plenty of times when she wants pizza or cake or cookies and I have to discuss it with her and see if we can be satisfied with a really small amount of that food or if it's just not the right day to eat that. She's been getting used to eating much less and I point out to her when I've eaten too much and feel too full. I don't make myself wrong when I've eaten more of something than I should. There are no forbidden foods on Weight Watchers. It's just a matter of how much and how often. Knowing that really calms that panicky feeling of not being able to have "enough" food. I've been finding out that much less really is enough.
