Back with a revised (non-graphic) chickenhawk/porn post. Improved and expanded!
Gosh, I sure hope they let it stay....

So the more I've thought about it since yesterday, the more I realize lefty porn dudes have in common with RWers.

There's the chickenhawk thing I mentioned, where they are all about defending the "choice" of individuals to perform in porn, but would demur at being similarly objectified and degraded for the entertainment of others. Just like the chickenhawks, they "Support The Troops"!

And like the chickenhawks, who are offended that you would even question the necessity of the war and will question your patriotism for doing so, the porn dudes consider any criticism of pornography, even the most violently misogynistic, to be an affront to "free speech". We are Bad Americans to both groups.

The free market RWers believe that people in 3rd world countries choose to toil 12 hour days in factories to produce cheap trinkets for Americans. The pornsters will tell you that the people who end up in sex work did so of their own volition, without any externalities contributing to their "choice".

Here's a little fill-in-the blank synopsis of the basic mentality of a Right Winger and a lefty porn dude. See if you spot the similarities too:

It is simply right and natural for some people to be exploited in order for the all important capitalist economy/all important male erection to be sustained.

That there was that one urchin who became wealthy/porn actress who turned entrepreneurial. If you can find one person who appears to succeed in the system, then it justifies the whole thing. The rest of those dumb serfs/dumb whores should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

If they don't like the sweatshop/porn movie set they should just do something else. Don't bother my beautiful mind about their lack of education, economic, and political resources/history of abuse and drug addiction!

I've never experienced grinding poverty/incest and rape but I know those people are choosing to live that way.

Thanks for playing. Stay tuned for my next installation. I'm thinking about the parallels to immigration and outsourcing. Something about the phrase "jobs that Americans won't do" is crying out for a comparison with our beloved sex industries, dontcha think?

1. If porn is such an wonderful choice that so many
people are making so willingly, and free of coercion, then why aren't any of the guys here volunteering? There's room in amateur porn for everyone!

And if they've made some homemade porn, why aren't they proudly proclaiming it and offering to share links with everyone?

Actually, I'd be very worried about anyone who offered to share links like that, and they would be too. But that just goes to prove the point.

2. I just returned from Southern California
Talk about easy access to porn! I agree with all your points. I was talking to my daughter about a feminist essay I was reading about the virtue of care. Nothing to do with porn really. (I'm thinking about using this essay in a post to make a point about porn though) But one thing that bugs the shit out of me is the complete and total lack of concern for sex workers. They make up these fairy tales to make themselves feel better about what is really a bullshit job. They try to talk about them lovin' it, CHOOSING it----the ultimate in male fantasy. Yes there are women (and men for that matter)in the industry who convince themselves there having a Great Time, but I've noticed many, many of them need to get ten kinds of fucked up before they can perform. And many, many of them have ten kinds of fucked up backgrounds that led them to the industry in the first place. The industry takes human beings, chews them up and spits them out and on to the next by the hundreds a day.

I'm no neophyte to the sex industry. I know about it. I get real irritated at people trying to bullshit me about what it's all about, how great it is, how the problems are SOOO exaggerated, how it's a protected 'right'. (However, it's hard to argue with folks who can't put together a cohesive and logical argument)

Great post catburgler!!!!

3. I was speaking to Morgana LeFay offline
about this topic and from that discussion I realized that there is a hypothetical test for whether or not someone was coerced into working in porn.

If there was no patriarchy, would these women still be working in porn?
If there was no sexism, would they still have chosen this career?
If they had not lived their lives internalizing the objectification of women's bodies, would they still think that porn was a good career move?

This is a hypothetical discussion, of course, because we will never see a world without sexism and patriarchy. But if the answer to these questions is likely to be "no" then they have been coerced into working in the porn industry. They may have chosen their current careers, but only because of the coercion of sexism and patriarchy.

Someone might choose to work in porn and it still wasn't an independent choice.

4. Great post catburgler...
I remember when pRon and free speech became intertwined...I could never understand why males thought we spoke from our vaginas...(an attempt at humor when trying to talk to rednecks about pron).

Now our own MilitaryIndustrialCongressionalComplex uses violent pron geared at young males to make them more likely to join the military where they can act on these videos. The hatred of women is encouraged. I've read from soldiers that they watch violent pron videos before going out on missions.

When will males wake up and realize that the gov't wants to turn them into murderers? When will a war be declared and no one show up to fight it?

5. I just found this site

http://www.againstpornography.org/Home_Page.html

It's kicking ass and taking names. I haven't cruised through the whole thing,(I'm going to do that now) but the blogger spent a lot of time getting it right.

I better edit here; it has links to vile quotes and offensive material.
