Poll question: So, what's your favorite...? |

...defense tactic/dismissive comment made by the racial, gender, misogyny and oppression apologists at large?
:hi:
(Choices provided are one form or another of comments viewed on this board and around the internet in response to feminist arguments.)

1. I voted for "irrational" because it seemed the closest to, "Wow, you obviously hate men and |
|
have serious issues with that."
Which isn't true, but if it were, why would that be surprising or uncalled for?

...I think I should change, "Why do you hate America" to "why do you hate men." I see that A LOT. Thanks for the reminder! Sorry I didn't have that one available for you.

3. I went with PC police. |
|
I've got one stalker-fan here who likes to refer to me that way when I object to racist or sexist slurs. :)
I like that one because it embodies such hypocrisy - "how dare you oppress me by not allowing me to use hate speech?"

14. I picked "irrational" because it's a nice way of saying |
|
hormone hysteria. You know how women are always hysterical because of PMS, pregnancy, or menopause. :sarcasm:

4. I tried, but I just couldn't pick just one. |
|
"Irrational," "emotional," and "PC police" are the ones I see most often, though. Not to mention the ever-popular "why do you hate men?" and "gee, you must really hate sex."

19. Has anyone ever asked why they hate women...? |
|
 I believe it's a valid question, considering the comments usually made.

They're all equally trying to defend bigoted statements. Must be followed by 'don't get your panties in a wad!'

6. My favorite is when the little fuckers try to tell me that the comment I objected to/alerted on |
|
wasn't actually sexist or misogynist, then link to a one-dimensional definition of sexism or misogyny from wikipedia or dictionary.com to "prove" their "point."

pains in the ass, the ones who always criticize any expression of feminism who then insist on defining feminism so that they can tell feminists what feminism is. x(

That's why I'm only popping in. I'm neglecting everything online for a little bit.
I hope you're doing well. :)

10. "Straw man!" "Broad brush!" "We're not all like that!" |
|
Even if you very carefully prefaced your characterization with an obligatory disclaimer such as "I know it's not all men..." or "Some men..." It's not good enough. A negative observation about a percentage of men, male culture, or patriarchy earns a hissy fit and an accusation that you are making a categorical statement about every man on the planet. I've been accused of strawman/broad brushing when I've related an anecdote about one man, and it was clear I was only talking about one man! That still got me flamed. I guess because I forgot the disclaimer. :eyes: It's like you can't have a discussion about anything without first paying the appropriate homage to any male egos in the midst.

15. Not yet but I'm sure it's coming |
|
In the meantime I've been called a Nazi, fascist, fundie, etc. Because the idea that women are people is just too radical for some people to handle. So of course the idea that non-white people are also people is over the top.

for calling him on his sexist stereotypes about me. I've actually been told that a number of times here--that my demand that people treat me with respect even thought I'm female is arrogant and/or "snotty." I guess that's there way of insinuating that feminists want to assert that women are better than men and that we don't want equality for women, we want a fascist Matriarchy now.
Idiots.

...along with:
"Get off your pedestal." "No one is as perfect as you." :eyes: "Well, aren't we self righteous?"
Such comments used to throw me. Now I just see them as a validation about the kinds of people that make them. It's their problem. Their inability to see others as equal and as entitled to rights as anyone. People that feel good about themselves don't see other's rights and opportunities for equality as a threat to themselves. People like this have bought into the lie that there's not enough to go around, that someone HAS to be the low man so they can be on top. :eyes:
Comments about snottiness and high horses say they don't believe in self-esteem for anyone, and that they also lack it.
