About enemies of feminism... |
|
I don't dare post in GD on that thread but think some valid points were made on both sides of the argument.
I don't believe the two women mentioned were enemies of feminism but they both were voices. I think whenever looking at an issue--or a person for that matter--in terms of black and white, the point is missed. I also believe the media latched on to some of the more extreme elements of their thinking and led to a misunderstanding of what feminism was as a whole.
What is known as radical feminism or separatism is part of the feminist movement as much as any other thought. That doesn't mean all feminists need to accept those schools of thought as their own.

1. This male agrees with you. |

I think feminism is, at its core, an appeal to individualism and the right to be whatever you want to be, and think whatever you want to think - female OR male. One of the things feminism has had to struggle with is the perception that it's a movement that will only benefit women (thus threatening men). But that's just not true - we ALL gain from feminism.
Well, maybe not the religious reich. But the rest of us do. :)

on that thread by pointing out that MacKinnon had a point when she was talking about coerced sex being all too normal a part of most of our lives.
In fact, I was gratified. Of course, I haven't checked back today.
