Let's just savor that for a moment. You may not be a charter member of her fan club, but she WON.

That's kinda how I felt that Obama won in Iowa. I was very disappointed HRC didn't win, but I was happy he did win. (If that makes any sense.)

Truly I'm for anyone but an "old white guy" - as talented and nice and competent as they may be (Edwards) - but it's about damn time that particular institution was broken.

I'd love Hillary to win.

I'd still be happy if Obama won. (Though I'm not as thrilled with him as a candidate as I was. . .)

My dream ticket?

Clinton/Obama.

Let's break both taboos in one fell swoop!

Or at least that's been my take. I'm all for breaking that institution. At the very least challenging it so we can bring in more diversity--so that "the people" are really represented from the top down.

But on this ticket, it was heartbreaking (to me at least) to see that the woman and the man of color, seemed to feel the need to appeal to the hetero white males of the world to run this race.

I can be pleased to see the progress that they were running. But I can also be disappointed with what was presented in the process (with both candidates).

I get the sense that so many still see them as the majority and "the deciders" for everyone else.

While they may still be the majority in govt., they are not the majority of the population anymore.
It's a dying breed (in my opinion). I think they know it too, or they wouldn't fight so hard to subserviate other groups of people(or to ensure winning elections by cheating).

Fox news is what it is, because this group "fears" becoming what they've forced on the rest of us for so long--second class citizens (women, people of color, glbt, disabled, etc.). You can see a lot of it in posts on DU, the sense of being born entitled that they really don't want to relinquish.

But back to the topic at hand, I can understand why Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama probably felt they had to court that group, even if I disliked seeing it.

6. Shirley Chisholm was a heroine to me when I was a child

As I was so young, I didn't remember if she won any primaries. A quick look-up reveals she took New Jersey! Magnificent! Those were heady days.

I thought it meant that the ERA would pass and glass ceilings would shatter.
I thought it meant that the racial unrest of the '60s had accomplished a sea change in racial equality.

I was just a hopeful kid.

I try to remember how important that is, and how far we've come when I get stuck in ambivalence.

I live in Washington state, and we have Senators Patty Murry (my personal favorite), Senator Maria Cantwell,(not as big of a fan, but she's a "damn good democrat" as they say) And Governor Christine Gregoire, who I didn't particularly care for but the old boys club has learned not to fuck with her. She's growing on me. (Of note, Washington state hasn't been able to put up a Republican candidate for Governor in years who wasn't a wing nut, although this last one was close) All three are inspiring women and good politicians. Senator Murry does an amazing amount of work especially notable for her work with veteran's health care legislation.

17. I was surprised how happy I was when she won

I was so angry at the misogyny online and what TV coverage I saw. I was always an Edwards supporter but I'm now going back and forth between Obama and Clinton. I'm probably going to vote for Clinton because I want a woman and I think Clinton knows how to fight the RW attack machine. Hopefully Obama will have his chance after Hillary.

I'll vote for him as well in the primary. But I'm just so joyful that we have such great candidates this go around.
