I usually sum those days up by remembering an old TV cop show, 'Starsky and Hutch" episode, where one of those guys tells the woman cop to get him a cup of coffee and then slaps her on the ass.


On a different note, lately at the gym there is this man around my age--some type of manager, who's taken to calling me "Mrs. ******" (I found out about it from my daughter, who thinks it's hilarious) So I put on my "street face" and say "Sup?" with a chin nod, in response to his Eddie Haskel like greeting. The other employee's call me by my first name.

Very strange, do I have to fight the "Ms." battle? After all these years? Maybe he saw my tee shirt that says "This is what a feminist looks like" Dunno. I take satisfaction in being in far, far better shape that he is, but of course that's petty.

It's not any different than Chris Matthews telling a female reporter to lean into the camera more, or men telling us to smile.

Which is why I use the Starsky and Hutch example. TV land America thought that was perfectly acceptable to treat a female in a non-professional role as a some sort of secretary and assumed that sexual harassment was seen as a "compliment"

One of the reasons I can't stand the term "politically correct" is that it obtained negative connotations simply by demanding reasonable--not stellar, but simply reasonable behavior and respect from people.

9. I wonder if there will ever be a day when

it would be so socially unacceptable to make sexist statements, and/or be dense about understanding what sexism is, that people will actually censor themselves or feel ashamed when called on it?
