Just FYI: violence against women vids are A-OK on DU

Someone posts a link in GD to an offensive video depicting violence against a woman. Sure, it was a dummy, but you know what? It was disgusting and potentially triggering for an abuse survivor. I alert on it. Naturally, my post gets deleted, the offensive one stays up.

I know this one will get locked too, but you know something? This is why women, LGBT and others have left this site in droves. It's turned into Daily Kos, only worse, because it wasn't always full of such fail. There's a reason I am hanging out on Shakesville now.

I didn't know what to expect when I clicked on it--not being familiar with the subject matter. It was weird and disgusting. Why anyone found it even remotely amusing was beyond me. Trust me, I have a fantastic sense of humor, evil as hell sometimes. That video bit wasn't fucking funny.

4. I didn't understand a few of the other videos

I've seen linked here--that were allegedly "funny." All the respondents claimed these were soooo funny, making fun of whatshisface's campaign, or something. I clicked on them and didn't see anything so hilarious. Just scantily clad women some all tied up, the other looked like a late night girls gone wild ad.

5. Adolescent behavior in a way

(Putting your basic misogyny aside)I never look at profiles, never put people on ignore. To amuse myself, I've tried to build profiles of repeat offenders. I don't "follow" anyone, but it's very curious who shows up where in subject matter. What I find is certain comments I would expect from a drunk 20 years old, then from at looking at other posts, my guess is that they're much older. Which puts them solidly in the extremely creepy category. Also creepy and actually bigger assholes are the libertarian types who defend the most heinous shit with a failed political ideology that never made sense in the first place. Using psuedopsychology and what they think is logic. I suspect the have a wikipedia window open to the logic section.

Shit, I'd be an anarchist before I embrace libertarianism.

I can appreciate your observations about "repeat offenders." For a time I attempted to keep track of certain posters, and for a very long time I wouldn't use ignore.

I noticed there are definite "hot button" issues that seem to attract certain members w/out fail. Some seem to "get off" on being the voice of dissent in racial issues. For some it's women's issues, others glbt issues. You know you're dealing with someone quite "special" when you see them in threads for "all of the above." In other words, if a minority is in danger of successfully making a convincing case for any right, or manner of equality--this extra special piece of filth shows up to piss all over it.

Once I realized the pattern and that some people were getting off on spewing filth, while simultaneoulsy upsetting others--I started utilizing my ignore feature. I also got tired of feeding others negativity. They seem to have an endless appetite for it. Enabling sociopaths didn't sit well with me. ;)

8. Apparently if it is not funny to us, we are simply wrong.

I was just told, regarding a video in which a woman is faux-slapped* at the end, "this has nothing to do with domestic violence" and to "buy a sense of humor." Sigh.

*I say "faux-slapped" because the video is doctored to make it appear she is slapped, when in the actual interview, she wasn't. But the slap came out of the blue and shocked me because the video was advertised as funny, with no mention that it contained this.

I haven't been around for a while. It's seeing stuff like this that makes me wonder why I come back at all. (sigh).

7. I just saw one today

I clicked on it not realizing what it was going to be. I was shocked when the "hilarious" end of it came. I don't know if this is the video you saw or if it's a different one. It's got tons of recommendations.

It has been the source of a lot of consternation to liberal women and has been discussed extensively at The Reclusive Leftist, The Confluence and others.

I am firmly convinced that women are the big losers in this election, and that the popular culture is taking a nasty turn.
