I was going to do this thread anyway, but before starting it, I read ismnotwasm's post, last in the Patriarchy thread.

I know there are a lot of women out there as brilliant as Solanas without the killing rage. I know there are female Jung's out there, like Pinkola-Estes, who takes Jung to a new level. I know there are women physicists and chemists and biologists and astronomers and Economists and Farmers and Foresters fucking fighting for their place for publishing The Word every fucking day. And they're outnumbered and outgunned.

Almost all the victims of a 17-year-old gunman who went on a killing spree at his former high school in Germany were women and had been shot in the head, it emerged tonight.

Heribert Rech, interior minister of Baden-Wuerttemberg state, told a press conference this evening that the youth killed nine students and three teachers. Eight of the dead students were women, as were two of the teachers. Seven other women students are in hospital with serious injuries.

Marc Lépine (October 26, 1964 – December 6, 1989), born Gamil Rodrigue Gharbi, was a 25-year-old man from Montreal, Quebec, Canada who murdered fourteen women and wounded ten women and four men at the École Polytechnique, an engineering school affiliated with the Université de Montréal, in "the Montreal Massacre", also known as "the École Polytechnique massacre".

The following is a translation of the suicide letter written by Lépine on the day of the shooting. The original letter in French is also available.

Would you note that if I commit suicide today 89-12-06 it is not for economic reasons (for I have waited until I exhausted all my financial means, even refusing jobs) but for political reasons. Because I have decided to send the feminists, who have always ruined my life, to their Maker. For seven years life has brought me no joy and being totally blasé, I have decided to put an end to those viragos.

I tried in my youth to enter the Forces as an officer cadet, which would have allowed me possibly to get into the arsenal and precede Lortie in a raid. They refused me because antisocial (sic). I therefore had to wait until this day to execute my plans. In between, I continued my studies in a haphazard way for they never really interested me, knowing in advance my fate. Which did not prevent me from obtaining very good marks despite my theory of not handing in work and the lack of studying before exams.

Even if the Mad Killer epithet will be attributed to me by the media, I consider myself a rational erudite that only the arrival of the Grim Reaper has forced to take extreme acts. For why persevere to exist if it is only to please the government. Being rather backward-looking by nature (except for science), the feminists have always enraged me. They want to keep the advantages of women (e.g. cheaper insurance, extended maternity leave preceded by a preventative leave, etc.) while seizing for themselves those of men.

Thus, the other day, I heard they were honoring the Canadian men and women who fought at the frontline during the world wars. How can you explain then that women were not authorized to go to the frontline??? Will we hear of Caesar's female legions and female galley slaves who of course took up 50% of the ranks of history, though they never existed. A real Casus Belli.

I tend not to have emotional reactions to things that I grasp intellectually and that don't affect me directly, other than feelings like anger.

I'm afraid that I just succumbed to a little weeping.

Others rape, or beat and abuse women serially. Have any of us doubted that some men are at war against women? The only real question is how large is that "some," and to what extent are the vast majority of men supporting them or sympathizing with them.

I think the worst part of these things is that you almost become numb after a while. (One of the reasons I appreciate Solanas, she couldn't be numb-- not with her life experience, not her mental make up, not with her well directed rage, I think that's why many of our mind, body and soul-hurt women succumb to self medicating)
Where I live there have been a few women murdered lately. A woman and her daughter. The usual around a city.

After I read your post, I morosely went and looked at statistics. So while males own most of guns, do most of the illegal gun running, women are killed disproportionately with them. Of course. Of course. Makes me sick.

I once was morbidly fascinating by a serial killers after losing a friend to one. The asshole hunted women down and shot them. Like a bad horror movie. I've never gotten over it.
