Women leaders
I just cringe everytime I read anything about Palin, Bachman, Fiorino, Brewer - any of the dozens of "high-powered" high-profile women in the news who are an embarrassment to the human race - much less to their gender!!

The thing that is truly pissing me off now is, how come "THEY" - Republicans, party of female oppression - has so DAMN MANY WOMEN either in office or running for office and getting so damn much attention?!? And how come they're all so nauseatingly ignorant?

joe the plumber, bush.

what i have found with republicans and fundamentalists in my area. the men get pissy if wife doesn't work and bring in money. so the stay home and preg thing doesn't work in todays economy. i see the stay at home more with the center, independent and liberal families.

2. I guess my point is -
why aren't there more DEMOCRATIC WOMEN in the news?? Where are all of our "women leaders"? We have some - some really great ones - but we need MORE.

Those ignorant republican women give all women a bad name in my book. We need to show what a REAL WOMAN LOOKS LIKE!

3. Who runs the media? I think that's the start of the answer to your
question.

It's not unusual for certain women to be allowed to "succeed" in order to show that successful women are traditional women. Does that make sense? I'm not sure how clear I'm able to convey my thoughts into words.

You'll notice that it's frequently the case that highly visible, successful women will be discussed in their traditional roles of mother and grandmother and if they aren't either of those they'll be demonized (Janet Reno) as sacrificing their "sacred" roles, or in the case of fiorina, will state publicly that they are unable to "attain" that role.

Successful women are only lionized when they can be shown to be successful traditional women first.

Jeez, I hope that made sense.

4. ...made sense to me.

:hi:

villified if one's education, career, etc. came first and especially if one never became a symbol of procreative bliss. :eyes:

celebrated and newsworthy when one supports the patriarchy's message for women--find a man, support the man, marry the man, have the man's children, if it's ok w/the man and it doesn't interfere w/being a wife and mother....then pursue a career...but again, the career absolutely can't in any way whatsoever, get in the way of all the stuff that women are put on earth to do....cooking, cleaning, changing diapers, looking blissfully happy whenever you speak about one's kids and husband, bible thumping, keeping other chicks down, saving the fetus and elevating it to godlike status, etc.

:puke:

5. Hey, Bliss!
:hi:

Thanks for saying so. I was having a hard time getting the thoughts to translate to words. I think you covered it.

The thing that's interesting right now is the number of women coming from elite backgrounds who you know damned well don't mow their lawn, cook their meals, clean their house, or any of the other myriad tasks that non-elite women and men have to do day after day to keep their houses running, and who are trumpeted as the good little woman.

...more often than not, they hire domestics (or as they are commonly known "undocumented workers"):eyes:....or of course, those "brown people." ;)

part of the population of chicks they work so hard to maintain the oppression of.

though i'm still not sure which group i find more irritating--the right wing women who end up w/political positions and some power, or the right wing women that are high profile through their work (entertainment) and are also touted as "ideal women." you know, like hasselback, p. heaton.

:hi::hug: ...good to see you, Cerridwen!

7. A new term; "Fascist Feminism"
Edited on Tue Jun-15-10 01:42 PM by ismnotwasm
Isn't that just fucking great? Palin and co. should be so proud. Love the way they willingly, nay, eagerly, defecate all over feminism and call it fertilizer.

It may just be me, but this is a typical nauseating, poorly written article from our friends at CBS news.

As Women Rise in Politics, Fault Lines Change
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20007480-503544.html

Here is a pdf breakdown from CAWP

"In 2110 women hold 90, or 16.8% of the 535 seats in the 111th US congress, 17 or 17% of the 100 seats in the Senate and 73 or 16.8% of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives

"Seven-three women from 31 states serve in the house of Representatives. 56 are Democrats, and 17 are Republicans. In addition, three Democratic women serve as the Delegates to the house from Guam, the Virgin Islands. and Washington DC.

In 2010, 72 women hold statewide elective executive offices across the country women hold 22.9% of 315 available positions. Among these women, 50 are Democrats, 21 are Republicans and 1 was elected in a nonpartisan race

Here's the website for Emily's list, great bloggers on the whole topic
http://www.emilyslist.org/

An interesting timeline from them
http://emilyslist.org/who/history/

So all in all, I agree with that notion of "who owns the media." Democratic women have been and remain WAAY ahead of these repuke women. Left wing and Democrat women have fought every step of the way, and the recent rw additions are standing on their backs with spiky high heels. Interesting how only the women who 'agree' with men-- which is what rw women do, after all-- get all this exiting press. It absolutely makes me sick. But it pisses me off as well, which is actually a good thing. I hope other women get pissed and stop letting these asshole try to represent what a decent female politician is made of.

Edit to add, we obviously have a long way to go statistically. I do not, do not, do not, want asinine stepford repuke women filling that political gap. And that, is what I guess is going to be a repuke stategy. Run the female then tell her how to think.
