I have an opportunity to become a Girl Scout troop leader... |
|
My daughter is 6 - she was a Daisy last year and she loved it. We moved over the summer and our new city has no troop. The regional office asked me if I wanted to start one, and I think it would be great, but I don't know if I might be getting in over my head.
I think I have enough skills and know enough people with talents they could share with the girls, and I think Girl Scouts can be a really great thing in girl's lives, but I also live in a low income area where I fear many parents will have little interest or ability to take part.
At the same time, I think that makes it even more important to try - there are a lot of poor little girls in my city who could really benefit from what Girl Scouts has to offer.
Anyway, I just wanted to throw it out there and see if anyone has had experience doing this.

You can make such a difference in their lives.
I was never a leader, but was a girl scout growing up. Some of it was good, some of it not so much for a girl like me - but if you have the opportunity, I think you should take it.

when I was in Brownies it wasn't that good, but that was more a function of the leadership than the program itself. I think as a feminist and as someone who has had to take care of myself for a very long time without much help, I could offer girls some real insight and understanding about what they really need to know and do in life.
Anyway, there is a meeting on Sunday so I am going to go and see what happens.

3. I think it's wonderful that you are considering this and hope you will decide to do it. |

I loved Girl Scouts and agree with you about what you can give to girls and especially to those from disadvantaged backgrounds. I'm sure it will be a huge commitment of time but hope it will be very rewarding.
