Human Rights vs. Feminism? |
I'm curious what the other folks here think about this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=172x6840My views are pretty obvious from what I've posted there. I'm curious if I'm in the minority on this (and about to get severely e-beaten up).

1. I am in your camp on this one. |
It is frustrating and scary to see legistlation based on reaction or emotion without reason. The language is too general in the OP.

2. I agree with you, especially |
the points you've brought up in the discussion with the other poster, whom I won't say anything else about because I don't want to be banned. Well hell. I have disagreed with that poster on nearly every single issue they are fond of. They barely seem to fit with their username in any capacity. THey are fond of tasers and think they should be used more frequently, have no problems with tasers being used on people who are already restrained, and has some very....interesting ideas regarding 'degrees' of rape, as evidenced by the conversation with you in that thread and in others.
Reminds me alot of a long-gone poster who swore they were liberal, but could not point to a single liberal or progressive ideology that they agreed with. Not saying that this poster is that poster, or that either one of them aren't liberals, democrats, etc. I'm just saying that they have some rather interesting ideas regarding alot of things...

3. I really do not like your thread title. I think it is provocative and |
misleading. Feminism and human rights are exactly the same thing. As to the subject matter, I do not think any human should not have room to make amends to be changed or to change. But as a person who worked with and saw the results of child molestors, (who were usually family members and not strangers) I really want to see these people not out and about to do long-term, life time harm again. This is why I think that good judges look at each case individually and not just at the letter of the law.

4. I puzzled over the thread title myself |
I agree that human rights and feminism are one and the same, and I'm offended that people think keeping all members of any group in jail indefinitely is justified by a minority that is statistically likely to commit the same crime again in the future. And I definitely don't think it's a feminist position to say people who commit rape should be locked up LONGER than a person who commits murder, or other heinous crimes.
The thread title was the result of me reacting to what I thought was perhaps being done "in the name of feminism" but I find contrary to human rights.

5. You can pretty much be assured in this usofa that not much is being |
done anywhere at anytime in the name of feminism. That idea to me is a knee jerk right wing reaction to any issue that impacts women more than men. It is the rushway of belittling and demeaning important issues that impact everyone, not just women.
