1. Did someone ask earlier about if we felt |
|
comfortable in the Democratic party? I did not answer that, just read it. My answer? NO. I am not comfortable anymore anywhere that I have to depend on men to "protect" my rights. Do men belong with us? Some but not very many. Most seem to think they are feminists but when it comes around it always gets to the pat pat, "don't worry your pretty little head about it, it won't be so bad, see? We will trade it for this pretty bauble and everything will be just fine."
Sorry, just got home and found out the news. Read a few nasty posts about this then got the same damn thing from my "feminist" husband. I am not fit for posting tonight.

3. I posted on that thread...that I don't feel comfortable always |
|
Too many so-called "progressives" willing to sell me down the river.
(((((((Muse)))))))
I take great issue with those saying to not be "upset" because of the "bigger" picture...and those crying "Don't forget Rove!" as if being concerned for your rights somehow makes you an idiot that can't speak out against Rove AND voice an opinion about Roberts at the same time.
Bush is gone in 2008...a SCOTUS appointment last a lifetime... and then some.
Yes, it's important to see Bush Inc brought to justice....but it's also important (more important actually) to fight for and retain the rights of others.
You don't relegate one to the back of the bus to achieve the other. You just don't sell out another persons civil rights. (not and call yourself a Liberal anyway)
And since the votes of women are greatly needed, some folks need to wake up and smell the female pheromones.

It has become my reason to live, to make certain that everyone has equal civil rights. I have focused mainly on the fight for gay rights because as you know, Kansas is being really tough on them. I will stand with anyone who is treated unequally but it really hurts to hear that those I would stand beside without question (not meaning the gay community) would be so willing to sell me out. Sorry, a quick beer to settle myself down and now I am woozy. Thanks for responding, right now I feel like I could blow up.

of womens rights going away. I hate to be crude, but that's what it seems likes. Here's another one: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4142997

8. Can you believe that "logic"? |
|
NO President has the "right" to take away civil rights...nor do they have the "right" to place people in office/cabinet/court that will either.
It's amazing the abuse and corruption people will accept and call it "politics"
It's like saying "We'll let Bush destroy the Constitution because he's President" (How fucked up is that thinking?)

15. That's another one that adopts "fuzzy" logic |
|
"If Democrats don't filibuster, then Republicans won't filibuster"
In what universe does that happen exactly?
So we don't fight against a bad appointment to keep Republicans from fighting against a Democratic appointment (no matter how good of an appointment)?
It's nuts.

16. Exactly. We should let them roll right over us, because we trust them |
|
to treat us with the same deference when WE CONTROL the government! As if we will ever control the government if we roll over on everything, and if we did, expect Republicans to not filibuster liberal nominees... LOL. Sheesh.

include the rights of women, then you're a "purist and a dogmatist", you "don't understand politics"

I think the war is an unmitigated horror. I think Bush, Cheney, Rove et. al., are criminals of the worst order. I get that. I think the 2000 (and possibly the 2004) election was stolen. I know that this administration is a disaster for the environment. Their economic policies are ruinous to working Americans and everyone else who works in the world.
I also think that overturning Roe v Wade, leading to a ban on abortion and then birth control (yes - I do think that will be the end result - the Xtian Taliban is not whistling Dixie here folks) will lead to untold misery and tragedy here in the U.S.
That's why I'm picking this battle. Plus, I don't get the "look at the bigger picture" crowd on this. This is one area where we actually DO have a good chance to take the country back. I think we should make this THE issue of the '06 elections. We really aren't capturing people's attention with the DSM, or Rove, or the war. Dipshit reading a goddamn children's book while planes flew into fucking buildings didn't sway them so why would any of that? Yeah, his approval ratings are slipping but all he needs is some terra to get a rebound. Most people are too caught up in their personal struggles to think about big domestic or geo-political issues. Some DUers forget that everyone isn't an avid political blogger.
Now, contrast the relative apathy in the aformentioned issues to keen interest in, and the decisive public reaction to the Terry Schiavo case. Americans are not cool with government interference in their private lives, they're really not. And the majority of Americans are NOT in favor of a ban on abortion, despite the moral objections many of them have to it.
The posters in the thread may be correct that there isn't much we can do about the upcoming nomination but they are really off base when they tell us to shut up about it IMHO. Not that I would anyway. I'll be shouting from the rooftops!

and it was s the shuttiung up part that really chapped my bottom.
The suggestion that people who were commenting on Roberts must have forgotten about Rove (and other things) didn't improve my mood any.
