This is seen all the time on tv, in the movies and in society. Society conditions women to be jealous and resentful of other women. This is glorified in "cat fights".
Reading the thread about Daily Kos just made me believe this is more true than ever. If the professor and Gilligan had started fighting, people would treat it as a real fight. However, since it was Mary Anne and Ginger, instead of "wow a fight" you get "ooh, a sexy fight". What's sexy about it?
Men fight, the crowd draws back. Women fight, the crowd laughs and ridicules them.

1. Boxing, Wrestling etc... |

are more analogous to entertainment fighting which is where I place the female fighting in media.
I have seen some brutal fights between women in real life that are far from being sexy.
Did you ever see male midget wrestling?

2. This is the result of a society that defines women as sexual objects ONLY. |

It's sickening and inexcusable.

It's not actually a "real fight", because it's two often scantily clad women involved. No one gets hurt because women are harmless, ya? It's just another way women's bodies are co-opted for male sexual pleasure.
To me it's just a less explicit version of the straight male lesbian porn fantasies.

I never could fathom the appeal of "catfights" or women wrestling each other, until I figured out it's supposed to be fakey - just a little hair-pulling and slapping and, hopefully, tearing of clothing. There's nothing at all sexy about a real fight - bloody noses and bruises aren't attractive. Real fights are disgusting.
Maybe that's why I can't get the appeal of boxing, either. Too empathic - I know only too well what it feels like to be hit, or to hit someone else. Ugh. Makes me sick to my stomach. Fighting always did, but the way I grew up, it was fight or die.
