In a PM I received in response to something I posted:

"Jesus Christ, you are one messed up person!"

"I stand by my statement that most women are unexceptional. Why should women be excepted from what I feel equally toward men?"

"You are a piece of work, you are."


He also posted this nearly verbatim as a response to SOMEONE ELSE in the same thread, but without the personal insults.

This pisses me off no end... This was in response to posts in a thread (now locked) where I defended against a statement exactly like the one above... only a bit more insulting... basically most women are idiots (words changed to protect the guilty).

Yes, I alerted on the PMs. I am just wondering if anyone else has been the target of this kind of subversive crap.

But I'll tell you...I am very discouraged by what some people have been posting since this whole Supreme Court nominee shit came down. 14. I once got a PM threatening me by a guy that posted in the lounge

in old DU.

He registered on a Tuesday..by friday night he was posting, "Hey all you sexy ladies! Post your pics! PM Me...who wants to have cyber sex...etc,,,he posted this shit ad nauseum...so on one of his threads, I posted that his actions were predatory..that there are minors on this site and that he should go to porn sites if he wanted to see sexy women pics...he sent me a couple threatening PM's and was pushing up daisies in short order.

Last week I received a PM accidentally that was meant to go to someone else, and in it were specific insults made about me... by name. Even after responding that the person sent it to me by mistake, I got no response.

Among other things, she called this group a "haven for damaged and angry women who really hate men" ... we are "right out of Soviet Communist cells of the 1940s and '50s" ... most of us are "nothing but the mirror image of those Menstruation Is Murder chicks" and we are a "Lunatic fringe" that will "never speak for women like" her.

It just warmed my heart to get that PM.

What a ridiculous thing to say to you. The women that do this, if it is, in fact, a woman writing this, are very threatened arent' they? They see men as powerful, and align themselves with men, in hopes of getting a few scraps and bones from time to time. I guess. It kind of reminds me of poor people who become Republican because they see Republicans as rich and powerful, and think that they too will become rich and powerful simply by becoming an R.

I don't think there are that many women here who actually hate men. Some can take or leave them, some have had awful experiences with men, but not many that actively hate men. At least from what I can tell.

The odd thing about this assertion is that I actually like, really like, men. I enjoy their outlook on things, I like the ways that they are different than women. I actually celebrate the differences between the sexes. Obviously, I cannot abide asshole men who refuse to treat women as equals, but once I'm sure that a man is a true progressive, or at least interested in becoming one, they are okay with me.

It's curious how we come across as man haters because we won't put up with sexist bullshit.

That pretty much decides it, right... that you never received it? It had to have been intentionally sent to me... that way she could AVOID GETTING BANNED For breaking the rules and personally attacking me... while personally attacking me! At least the admins received it :)

Oh....and back to the other person who sent me the notes in my OP... I found out today that he sent at least two people (who I consider friends of mine) IDENTICAL notes in which he called me (and another poster) "major man-haters" and "pieces of shit."

Funny that I inspire such incredible hatred. Well, not funny, disappointing really. Strong, independent, smart and truly progressive men seem to like me fine, so I'm not gonna sweat it.

If I had not approached you about it, it would have led to an assumption that you and she were in an alliance of sorts, and that you sided with her somehow. Fortunately, I knew from your posts that you would probably not be the kind of person to appreciate the insults that were contained in that PM... so I took a chance that she was just sending it to you out of the blue and banking on the fact that we haven't conversed much. I really didn't consider that it was intentional at the time, but now I'm sure of it.
