What are your favorite feminist or feminist-friendly websites?
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 10:36 AM by BlueIris
I've got tons of them, but here are the ones I can think of off the top of my head:

http://www.feminist.org

http://www.now.org

http://www.tomatonation.com

http://www.chicklit.com

http://www.ThisIsNotOver.com

1. Two more:
http://www.payequity.net

http://www.gendergap.org

The statistics at those sites should curl everyone's hair, if you're not already familiar with how bad things are.

3. Can't say I do. Do you know anything about feminista.org?
Namely, where the hell it went? I found it in 2001 after a friend of mine told me it was the best feminist publication anywhere (especially since Ms magazine started sucking badly). It was wonderful. Each installment contained the best collection of feminist writing and thought I've ever encountered at a single location. It used to be free as well. Now, it's a blank page. I also can't come up with any links about what might have happened to it. Frustrating.

11. Thanks. I actually just fired off an e-mail to the woman who
recommended feminista.org to me, creator of this lovely site:

http://www.hissyfit.com

No word yet.

See her post here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=229&topic_id=1852#2194

"In partnership with The Men's Activism News Network, the Individualist Feminist movement offers proof that feminism doesn't have to be anti-male. Wendy McElroy and her iFeminists.com web site provides a forum for feminists who believe in equal rights and responsibilities for men and women."

Any "feminist" website that suggests "feminism" is "anti-male" in the first place doesn't sound quite right to me.

Also check out her post here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=229&topic_id=1781&mesg_id=1964

Seems they liked Wendy McElroy's article ("The Marriage Strike - Why are men reluctant to marry?") over on FR. Certainly not company I want to keep.

6. Thanks for the info. I was looking for a site one night when I was totally
bummed at DU and found that in a search. Now, with this forum, I will always have a place to hang my hat.

8. Yeah, I hear you with regard to being wary of:
"Any 'feminist' website that suggests 'feminism' is 'anti-male' in the first place doesn't sound quite right to me." Because: Yeah.

17. The ifeminists seem to be mostly men
and a lot of conservative men at that. Check out these 2 threads for a representative sample:

On men and housework: http://www.ifeminists.net/interaction/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3883

Bashing Cindy Sheehan:
http://www.ifeminists.net/interaction/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3918

gross.

10. I love Bitch Magazine's site
Edited on Wed Jun-08-05 12:42 PM by Chovexani
http://www.bitchmagazine.com/

Being an unashamed pop culture junkie, I'm endlessly fascinated with it. My favorite bit is the (s)hitlist blog. There are some fascinating conversations in the comments (though they are sometimes plagued by trolls and spammers).

I second the rec of Tomato Nation. I love Sars from her TWoP stuff and that's how I found TN. One of my favorite TN pieces was a short and simple response to the god-awful "I'm not a feminist, but..." mentality that we see a lot of (especially around women my age, the 20s set). I printed it out and put it on my fridge, LOL.

16. Anyone remember EstroNet?
Several years ago, it was sort of a meta-site with links to feminist-friendly pages like Hissyfit, HipMama, and a page dedicated to sucky ex-boyfriends. It was also home to the free e-mail service, Chickmail.

EstroNet was my first introduction to the Internet round about 1996, and my first e-mail account was a chickmail account. I was cleaning out some old boxes, and found a scrap of paper with my user name and password, making me nostalgic for all those sites.
