1. Good example of why I am a lurker these days. Many at DU have a

very twisted image and regard for women as human beings. Disgusting. If this were being said about those on our "side", what would we think about those using this verbiage?

I am doing a lot more of that myself lately. Andy Stephenson invited me to this place and I have found it to be wonderful in many ways. But it is truly disappointing to find "our" folks to be so unabashedly prejudiced in certain areas. I don't get it--I had assumed at least this group would have moved on already. Best wishes.

this is just me -- but i'm taking the angle of "they need to know." so, i'm not letting stuff just sit and simmer.

i've worked on the sociology of science and feminism for many years and wasn't surprised by some of the reaction. illegitimate statements. unauthorized theory. threat to dead white man -- ps -- i'm not "for" ID -- it's a ruse.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this. It is always a good idea to hit an alert on situations that you find 'troublesome' (for lack of better words at the moment).

Know that you aren't alone in your feelings (as shown in the other posts on this thread).

I've had similiar issues w/DU. A large part of which came after the Roberts nomination. The other part of what bothers me came prior, due to some things I have read in regards to race and ethnicity. The need for some here to speak out in support of bigots and those that are openly intolerant is disturbing to me. :shrug:

While it makes me angry, hurt, sad, etc. when it occurs--the positive outweighs the negative for me here. The overall support that WE ALL have available through the mods here is wonderful. Usually (if not always) if they are made aware of a situation, they will handle it.

If nothing else, in time maybe they will get the message--maybe not. In the meantime, I'm glad for the other opportunities to support issues that mean a great deal to me.

So please, don't let other's ignorance take you away, if you really want to be here. I understand not frequenting GD as much, I just don't want to see you go away altogether. :hug:
