Just for fun: what's your Sun sign? |
|
I kind of have a theory about astrology and feminism. I want to see if it jives with the feminists posting in this thread. I'm a Taurus.

actually cancer/Leo cusp, lots of Leo in my horoscope. I found as I grew older the more "Leo" I became. Pisces rising, thank god I should say I'm not really into astrology, but I was interested many years ago.

17. Well, my theory's kind of shot to hell by these entries. |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-29-05 08:48 PM by BlueIris
In my experience, I've found more feminists among the earth signs and the fire signs. Occasionally, one of the water signs I've met has turned out to be vaguely supportive of feminist ideals, but this has not happened often. I suppose it's silly to think that astrology determines whether or not one is more likely to want global empowerment of, and equality for women.

19. I don't know if that predisposes you to "weirdness," but... |
|
I also have Uranus in my first house. Readers have told me that this is a sign of mental brilliance, or the potential for brilliance, anyway. Not sure if anything about that configuration predisposes one to embrace feminism...well, except for the fact that I think it's hard for the truly intelligent people to turn away from feminism.

I am not going to make a joke about the first line of your post, no matter how badly I want to.
Your remark about intelligent people supporting feminism is, of course, correct - at least in my world. Although it might not be a measure of intelligence only - I think things like compassion, kindness, a sense of fair play, all come into play, and it doesn't hurt to have some historical reference points on which to base one's embrace of feminism.
After that, it's pretty hard to deny anyone equal rights.
Notice I did not make a joke about your first line............

22. I noticed you didn't make a joke. Also--you're a Virgo?! |

But, but, I love you so much! I've wound up depising every Virgo I've ever met. Leos on the other hand--we get along just fine. Maybe that explains it.
I totally hear you on the need for a sense of history when it comes to being inspired to embrace feminism. I've been screaming for a while now that the reason more people aren't outraged by inequality is a lack of knowledge about history in our sad little society.

Although the 25th isn't *quite* the cusp. ;)
Messiest desk, dirtiest floors, most overflowing ashtrays you'd ever find among virgoes, I'm afraid.
My first associate in private practice was also born on August 25th, although a couple of years later. One year, we organized a lunchtime get-together of us two, the other two lawyers in town practising immigration law, and a couple of out-of-towners who practised prison law who were here on business. We announced that it was our birthday and everyone must say the appropriate things. One of the two other immigration lawyers at the table turned out to be celebrating his the same day. I was born in Canada, she was born in Jamaica, and he was born in Guyana, all different years. One of yer mighty big coincidences -- but, I hasten to add, no more than that. I did buy a lottery ticket on my associate's and my joint birthday that year, when I spotted one with the number "625253" -- I don't ever ever buy lottery tickets -- and it did not win a penny.
the probably older leftie ex-lawyer ;)

With heavy Scorpio tendencies. I don't really know what that means, but I had my chart done ages ago and that's what I remember. Aquarius sun sign, Scorpio moon and I think in a couple houses. I've been told it's what makes me more pragmatic than many of my Aquarian sisters and brothers.
