Well is a deep subject
 :hi:

The unavoidable sparring with dolts was the price paid for having the audacity to think that women belong at the big table and don't need to create a Pink Ghetto for girl talk or a semi-secret safe zone for people who think Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.

After many, many :boring: many attempts to communicate with the obstinately obtuse, thereby learning that perhaps there really is more can't than won't involved in their stunted attitudes, I let slip the not-so-nice IMHO that sexist bigotry makes people seem ignorant.

The big table has been overrun recently by Beavis & Butthead and the whole gang............... the language every day seems so dumbed down and crude............

I advocated for the right of the Pink Ghetto and the FG to form-- and also for the right to not have to RETREAT in order to be a part of this supposed community.

Tonight I remember that the real reason that certain language is objectionable is that it conveys the ignorance of the writers, it "cheapens the discourse for everyone," it makes it harder and harder to tell the RW phonies from the dem dolts and crowds out the better nature and true potential of the board.

9. Tschaa-- ya know what?
Hi unschooler :hi:

The problem is the invisibility of women.
Silence and low visibility is unremarkable on a disembodied board.
No one notices women are quiet until we bring something up.
Or not.

13. I enjoy your threads and posts as well....
I suppose you all have seen the 'ActofLove' ads on Raw Story and DU....well, I decided to 'become visible' and I sent an email to them....asked when we would be seeing a well-endowed male in a speedo.

And I got a response from John at 'extreme campaigns.' He said my email was disgusting...it seems that women aren't allowed to be nasty, just males are. I rather enjoy shocking them though....can't help it.

Anyway, he said there will be a male showing up in the ad in a few days....and chastised me for NOT knowing that....my crystal ball has been a bit cloudy lately....

Sexism is the last 'ism' IMHO...and lefty boys can be worse than the righty boys. Back in the '70's when the lefty boys were growing their hair long, marching for peace, smoking pot and seeing that the world could be a place of 'equals,' they started to get very nervous....all of a sudden women were studying law, enginneering, medicine....and women could have sex and not get pregnant....and women could support themselves financially.....All of a sudden, I think a bunch of them thought...'Uh-oh...what have we created? Do we really want women to be our equals?' And then along came Ronnie and it has been downhill ever since.....

I fcuking hate this Backlash. I never in my wildest dreams would have envisioned breasts implants, porn as mainstream, and a media that makes women feel awful about themselves....

I read somewhere that the biggest CHANGE that has occurred to our planet was.....guess...not electricity, not invention of the wheel....the birth control pill has had THE most dramatic effect on us. It sure made lots of males nervous....

Well....enough...I am moving to another city so I better get back to packing.....may be a while before I get back here.

So Happy New Year to all.....I believe '06 will bring us some long-awaited Justice.

Maybe you're sposta have crystal balls.

Yeah, there's the girl advertising her assets on the Discuss page and there's George Clooney in front of big letters SYRIANA and a purposeful scowl tells us he's on serious business. Part of the perception clashes that continue to occur (although they're so stupid and repetitive, at this point they're best avoided) are apparent in the contrast there on that Big page:

Men are people of substance

Women are fluffy

What's the BFD?
.....................................................................:sarcasm:
As long as we don't rock the cliche boat, everythings F-I-N-E!!!!!!!!!!!!

btw there is some real interesting threads bouncing around GD today that are what I like to think could be "normal"-- some relevant threads on "women's" issues that relate to the big picture we ALL have in common. Yay.

Have a great move femrap-- see you later. Happy New Year. :toast:

Heaven forbid! We fluffy wimmen cannot POSSIBLY be entrusted with matters of such critical import. If you will stop insisting on having your own desires and submit to the dictates of advertisers and the corporatocracy you'll be so much more content. :sarcasm:

Some dudes just can't take a joke, can they?

Great post. I agree with you about the momentous effect of birth control on culture. Also definitely that left wing men can be worse than wingnuts. Surprisingly, sexual harassment is a big problem in progressive organizations. Which is not to suggest that it doesn't happen at the RNC Convention too, as I'm quite certain it does. But it's really disheartening when you're engaged in political activism and trying to bring your ideals to fruition in the community and the guy working or volunteering next to you thinks you're a piece of ass. Y'know, it's bad enough to put up with that shit on the job where they at least PAY ME! But to contend with creeps when engaged in volunteer work, on progressive causes at that, is just beyond the pale IMHO. Then you pop by your favorite liberal websites and get assaulted by objectifying ads and sexist comments that you're expected to take in stride like a good little 'cool' lefty chick. :grr:

19. Hasn't this always been a problem?
I'm remembering reading about SNCC and some of the civil rights groups as well as the antiwar groups in the 60s and how the male leaders were often violently against women becoming involved in any other capacity than cooking food for meetings and such.

18. IMHO
Having just withstood yet another hateful and mentally defective personal attack from an infamous serial abuser, who goes all limp to have the last word before having an entire sub-thread deleted, I'm left wondering Why?

Why is it okay to attack women? Why are we supposed to hide away (in a place we know is monitored and infiltrated as well)? Why are the terms of the discussion stretched and ignored to accommodate beratement of us?

Rather than a matter of fairness, the question is:

Why is that seen as necessary and constructive to the supposed common goals we share?

So! We know what a huge mistake it is to shut out vital subjects and vital energies, shut up and shut out from the process of progress. So, what do, where do we go?
