The numbers don't lie
I'm posting this here to avoid the inevitable frenzy that would occur were I to post it in GD.

Every time we claim that men are a large part of the impetus behind the current attempt to overthrow Roe v. Wade there is the inevitable cries of, "No, it's not men, it's the right-wing women".

But the numbers tell us otherwise:

Support for Abortion in Sharp Decline

Survey finds 52% majority favor abortion in most circumstances, down markedly from 1990s; Stark partisan split remains

snip

Among women, 50% said they favored the availability of abortion in all cases, while another 8% said they favor its availability but do not want the government to pay for it. Thirty-eight percent of women said they opposed abortion outright, or with certain exceptions. Among men, 59% said they oppose abortion completely or with certain exceptions, while 35% said they favor it always. Another 12% said they favor it but do not want the government to pay for it.

snip

“What’s striking to me is that the numbers were radically different ten years ago,” said John Zogby, President and CEO of Zogby International. “Ten years ago, maybe just seven or eight years ago, pro-choice forces were in the ascendancy and posted pro-choice numbers in the area of 65% to 68%.”

snip

The Zogby survey highlights a dramatic partisan split on the question. While 74% of Democrats said they favor abortion the availability of in all circumstances, just 9% of Republicans feel the same way. And while 78% of Republicans oppose abortion either completely or with some exceptions, only 17% of Democrats agree.

Anyone still have the cajones to claim that WOMEN are leading the fight against abortion? :eyes:

1. Mind if I repost this?
Maybe not tomorrow, but by Tuesday, I should have my flame proof suit finished and ready to wear....

I think it needs to be in GD.

4. Give us some warning
so we can verbally eviscerate the naysayers, fetus fetishists, and phallus idolators.

6. Damn it....Rove, his media buddies, and fundie nutcases are really
brainwashing the masses aren't they? Shit. I can't believe it's so close to 50%. Unbelievable....hell, wasn't it over 60% just before the '04 Election?

I am having doubts about these damn pollsters...who says they aren't on the payroll of Rove, too? Seriously.

I was speaking to some young college women at the annual NOW Conference in Ohio....they told me that a number of their friends were pro-gay marriage but anti-abortion! I was shocked!

7. I don't know. I participate in the Zogby surveys
I started doing so in January or so. I just did one on Sunday that had lots of abortion questions, so it looks like it might be a follow-up to the one I posted.

8. Uh. The numbers don't work.
On the men's side.

=/- 1.3% points so it's not the margin of error

59+12+35 = 106 %

I don't want to post this without getting clarification from Zogby.
