Disturbing NPR radio piece |
|
So I was out and about yesterday and had All Things Considered on - and this woman is on there giving her commentary about life. So in her opinion - mothers (I think she was only been referring stay-at-home mothers - though some of the digs seemed directed toward any mother of small children) - should expect to parent 24/7 without whining. And if the husband ever honors their request (because stay-at-home mothers should never expect fathers to figure out what to do without their requesting it done) that is the most that a mother could expect. And if the mothers don't like it then the husband should leave them and presumably marry her (she actually suggested that) - a working mother who apparently would be happy with any man - so I don't know why she isn't married to one. (Maybe should could get a husband with one of those "sets of rules" that doesn't allow whining).
I thought it was off the charts. No wonder I don't listen to NPR much - if that's the POV they are pushing. The Republicans wanted to make it irrelevant and they did.

I'll have to go dig that up, because my blood pressure is down a bit today.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5310110It's pretty bad. I sort of get her point (she's a single mother) but it certainly makes clear why women are sometimes like Democrats - we eat our own rather than fight the common enemy.

3. Wow. Somebody has some issues. |
|
(I have mine too, of course, but I'm not spouting them on NPR! :P )

Sad and...kinda pathetic. The people pushing these sick perspectives need to get lives.

She's kidding, right? Tell me she's kidding. Waiting in the wings for someone else's husband? Because they're probably a "good catch"? Blech

7. What are the circumstances of her single parenthood? |
|
If she wants a husband so badly, why isn't she with her child's father? Unless she's recently widowed, I don't understand why she didn't try to make a life with him. If he dumped her and walked away, I might understand a little of her bitterness, but she really can't translate her experience to those of other women.
I'm a single parent, and I really don't understand what her problem is. It's often hard doing everything alone, but I sure don't begrudge other women their husbands, or resent when they gripe about them.

9. An answer to your question |

I'm ashamed to admit to reading Glamour, but in this month's issue there's an article about Ms. Gottlieb discussing her experiences dating while pregnant. Apparently, she got pregnant in her late 30s using donor sperm.

having an available father, and then presumes to judge others for their choices and issues? Boy, she is one f'ed up woman. I don't have a problem with her choice, but it sounds like she does.
BTW, don't apologize for reading Glamour - it's got a real feminist sensibility underneath all the makeup and sex stuff! Thanks for the info.
