I'm a woman, and sometimes I'm a bitch
No, not moi. ;) Women who say this particular stupid thing in response to objections to labelling a woman "bitch".

I've got a response I'm happy to offer to anyone who would like to use it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0039416/quotes

Elaine Wales: You just let them get one wrong Jew in here, and it'll come out of us. It's no fun taking the blame for the kikey ones.

Phil Green: Miss Wales, I'm going to be frank with you. I want you to know that words like kike and yid and coon and nigger make me sick no matter who says them.

Elaine Wales: Oh, but I only said it about a type of Jew.

Phil Green: Well, it's the word that I'm talking about.

Elaine Wales: Oh, but sometimes I even say it about myself. Like, if I'm about to do something I know I
shouldn't, I'll say, "Don't be such a little kike."

Gentleman's Agreement, 1947.

1. I think it's a nice sentiment, but good luck with the Vichy Femmes.
Some people have yet to realize the power of language.

When I'm in a nasty mood and behaving badly, I call myself an asshole. It seems to fit the bill quite nicely, and can be gender neutral. ;)

2. heh

I didn't necessarily mean it as a tool for winning hearts and minds. ;)

5. I like that one...
I usually say cheeky, as I've always liked the way it sounds--that is when I think someone is pushing boundaries too far, or testing limits inappropriately.

I think I will adopt gutsy when I think someone is showing much courage, and acting as such. In those cases, cheeky wouldn't really be appropriate. Thanks! :hi:

6. Vichy Femmes - very good description
The willingness of some women to sell out completely for a few crumbs of male approval never ceases to amaze me.

4. I tend to mostly call men that
but then again, I also tell people to blow me, so my thing is to reverse gender insults and confuse the hell out of people.

7. I say that all the time too!
Blow me. There's something very satisfying about that utterance.

9. My daughter and I were talking about it
She would rather be refered to as a body part "One that I'm don't have any reason to be ashamed of" Than "A dog"

This came about because she uses the word c*** (I believe it's forbidden on DU) When she feels like name calling. Even in the army, women would get upset over that particular word---something about the syntax maybe has always struck a cord--And that was her standard response "Would you rather be called an animal? A dog?"

We talked about women- as- body- parts, and she understands, but she hates the word bitch. I told her to look up the history of the word, (c***, not bitch) since it's rather interesting. At least some of the speculations are.

We both will reverse gender insults of any kind. It's interesting to watch the faces of men--or women when you break the "rules"

10. hee hee
A few years ago, I adopted an alternate persona on an anti-choice internet board to annoy someone. Off the top of my head, I called myself "shedevil".

Only recently did I realize ...

bitch
1. a female dog or other animal
2. a malicious or spiteful woman
3. a very unpleasant or difficult thing or situation

shedevil
a malicious or spiteful woman
I love my accidental wordplays. ;)

On reversing: when I was in first year university I was quite young, and while very politically conscious and active, quite untutored in many of the ways of the world -- and unaccustomed to using four-letter words. In the course of our battle to have curfews and other rules abolished in women's residence (this was 1969, and men's residence had no rules), I referred to the student head of residence, in conversation with a fellow shit-disturber, as a "prick". My friend informed me that she couldn't be a prick, because she was a woman. I thought that was unfortunate, since it seemed to be exactly what she was.

Maybe we could just start calling C. Rice a prick, and D. Cheney a bitch. And let the heads spin. ;)
