1. I don't want to kick the thread so I won't post to it but, cripes! |

WTF? Besides, he's got it all wrong; the punch line was; because a woman wouldn't ever tell her real age. I guess old sexist jokes never go out of style. :eyes:
On the bright side, not one reply in that thread was positive. Every reply to the OP took him to task for such idiocy.
Oh, and mel, I'm sorry to hear you went through such hell. I hope you're doing "okay" these days. Take care of yourself, please.

Doing quite well, thanks :) I'm one of the lucky ones that got treatment early...never needed to go inpatient. Went off to college with a quickly developing eating disorder, to the only city in the whole state that had a certified eating disorder specialist doing therapy. Talk about fortunate...
It's a very misunderstood disorder, and comments like from this dude make me so angry.

Stupid shit.
Congratulations on your recovery, I've taken care of anorexic women off and on over the years, mostly for medical problems incurred because of the disease and I saw what a difficult battle it is to fight.
I don't think it's taken seriously enough, you have tabloid speculation on which movie star has "an eating disorder"--they very well may, but it seems to be done in an almost joking manner and undermines the deadliness of the anorexia.
Even young diabetic women with the disease of anorexia--I only found this out a year or so ago, will allow their blood sugars to get dangerously out of control in order to lose calories.
Very frightening. I'm glad to hear you're doing well. It's very inspiring to me, because I've mostly seen the other end of it in the nursing home and hospital I've worked at.

Yes, there are many diabetic girls who manipulate their diabetes to lose weight, and their numbers are growing unfortunately. It's so incredibly dangerous! Really, the eating disordered world in many ways is its own subculture, especially on the internet. There's such a delicate balance in bringing this subculture to light, as no one wants more girls to learn about the many unhealthy behaviors that are common to people with eating disorders out of fear that they will try it too. Such a misunderstood disorder...

if it wasn't I was going to alert on it. It seems rather obvious flame bait. (sigh)I hate that, but so glad to see that it was seen as such and shut down. Some folks just don't have anything better to do than to say stupid things to upset others. :(

6. I couldn't understand the reluctance to call it sexist. |
|
Reminded me of Seinfeld: George: "Why can't there be some things just for me? Is that so selfish?" Jerry: "Actually, that's the definition of selfish." http://www.pkmeco.com/seinfeld/code.htm

As right as you may be, this is still a call out. Please don't use the group to "rally the troops" for a thread elsewhere.
