Hee. Misogynist males *running* for cover in wake of election results.
Or, at least, they are in my life. So, so many male misogynists I've observed in RL and on some of my favorite blogs and websites run by men are simply shaking in their boots at the Democratic victories, especially those effected by female candidates and officials, (not to mention GLBT people) in the midterms. I realize that the backlash may not be pretty for a while, but a part of me is a tiny bit amused. Sorry, fellas; you're going to have to give up your hegemony eventually. And maybe that day will be here sooner than you think.

1. I don't know--this morning I was having breakfast at an airport motel
(long story) with CNN on in the dining area. A feature about menopause came on, and the Typical Middle-Aged Suburban Guys at the next table were making crude jokes all the way through. I was strongly tempted to make comments about prostate trouble, but I bit my tongue.

2. I hadn't noticed - but that is interesting.
I noticed this on Demcracy Now! this am.

"The only areas in where Republicans retained a majority of the voters were in people who earned over $100,000 a year and demographic groups among white Protestants and among men.

Women, overwhelmingly Democratic. African Americans, Latinos, Asians, all the demographic groups, Catholics, Jewish voters -- basically only people over $100,000 a year and also the elderly, people over 60 years of age, still voted majority Republican. But the younger you get in the population, the more Democratic its leanings. So that does suggest that there is a potential for more long-term changes in the air."

It's going to be (some of) the rich (Protestant) white men vs. everyone else (more of less). Of course they are still the ones that own most of the media, most of "Wall Street" and all that. So it's not like it's an even playing field or anything.

3. Only somewhat OT
But a friend e-mailed a list of quotes from Homer Simpson, and this one struck me with its honesty.

I'm a white male, age 18 to 49. Everyone listens to me, no matter how dumb my suggestions are.

4. Snerk. I remember that line.
So depressing, and yet so true and yet...Democrats, including many women and GLBT folks, now have a majority in Congress.

5. Yes, but
Let's see how far the women and GLBT get in terms of furthering equal rights. I have a feeling the DLCers will be keeping us in check.

6. Oh, please. The DLC is not a threat to progressives. Misogynist, bigoted
assholes who call themselves conservatives are. I can't believe someone brought that "DLC is the enemy" crap into this forum of all places. But since someone did--please, don't do the work of the far right for the far right; let them push their anti-progressive propaganda on their own. And get some real information about the Democratic party, would you? It's embarrassing to see our own people continue to spread these lies.

7. The DLC is anti anti-war people.
They have made it very clear in their own writings on their own website without any spin from anyone.

They have made it clear that they support corporatists. I don't see them as progressive - and I get my information from the DLC people, themselves. If they are progressive - it's a different kind of progressive than how the word has historically been used.

I don't see them anti-feminist, necessarily or anti-gay, etc. So they do have some advantages over the Republican/Rovian type agenda. But that doesn't make them progressive in my book. That's what I expect out of normal people.
