| would women ever do this to men ? |
|
the recent news about that girl in Iraq being stoned to death for falling in love with the "wrong guy". and to excuse it by claiming it was to restore honor.
i could be wrong. but most if not all cases of these type of things happening involve the female having to pay a price by being killed , usually in horrible ways which include suffering such as being stoned. or being imprisoned .
i don't know many cases of men doing this.
and usually it's the men who do the stoning, killing etc.

| I have a couple of thoughts on this |
|
My first is that, given the level of pent-up rage many women have over how their lives are constrained by the patriarchy...I can see that leading to enough anger for some to be perfectly willing to stone a man under the right circumstances...though not necessarily over "honor". I know I'm just about angry enough over this incident.
My second thought is that this is how the patriarchy effects men. And they need to see that. It turns them into the kind of people who would stone a women to death over the thought that she might have sex with *gasp* someone of her own choosing. Men need to see that. I think a lot of good men don't want to believe they are capable of this sort of thing and if we can just get across to them that it's not some sort of weird psychological aberation on the part of the men who do this stuff...that the violence and anger toward women is endemic to the system, that making men hate women this much, enough to kill them, even if they're your sister or neighbor or someone you care about, is the whole point...maybe they'll stand with us and start trying to make a difference.
But I'm not holding my breath.

| 2. The closest I can envision |
|
is a scenario where it still reinforces male supremacy.
I'm thinking specifically of homophobic women (along with men, but you asked about women) flipping out as a result of a son turning out to be gay - putting them in those "correctional" places or kicking them out of the house.
Of course in that case, the loss of honor is related to a male not participating properly in the patriarchy.

| 3. Please read, "The Creation of Patriarchy," by Gerda Lerner. |

And the posting guidelines for the Feminist Forum. They would both provide you with enough information to answer this question.
