Do you ever hear the phrase, "female bashing?"

I remember when the movie THELMA AND LOUISE came out, people were saying it was about "male bashing."

Like, duh, in a patriarchal society I would expect something different?

1. I've accused some people of "women bashing."

and been told "they're all man haters anyway, so they can take it."

Apparently bashing women is okay, but bashing men is a federal crime of some kind.

3. I find it a puzzling paradox

How half of the population is deemed to be stronger, more stoic, and more logical - so much so that only they are capable of holding important jobs and leadership positions. Yet they become so fragile and easily crushed by the merest whiff of criticism. Of course, the reverse applies to us flighty, emotional females. Our soft natures make us reliable for heavy responsibility but we've got constitutions of iron that allow us to withstand a constant onslaught of ugly denigration.

5. good point. A male friend once pointed out a similar paradox to me.

We were discussing why many men seem to have so much understanding why sexism makes us furious, wears us down, is an important topic, etc. I offered that since many of them have never been victimized themselves and often have been the unknowing beneficiary of it (at least in the short run), it is probably hard for them to put themselves in our positions. He rejected that by saying: But these same men are outraged at any hint of "reverse discrimination"! And he's right.

Since "reverse discrimination" is obviously less pervasive and severe--on the whole, as statistics show--than discrimination against women and minorities, there should be LESS outrage, and at the very least, that should make it VERY easy for them to "get" discrimination against women and minorities.

;) particularly not as much as I see "male basher." Certain threads here, that's all you see. It's beyond old. It's such a weak defense mechanism. I see,"...man basher" I immediately think, hmmmm....someone's taking things rather personally. Among other things, I'm not thinking very clearly at the moment. Maybe I'll post more about this later.

To me, female 'bashing" Is implicit in a patriarchy. It's accepted in our media, our music, our culture, some accept it in ourselves. There is no need for such a term. We live the life.

I would think the need for specific female bashing in a culture where we are referred to as bitches and ho's, sluts whores, routinely, where our bodies are taken and analyzed piece by piece for sexual desirability, where even to this day a head of a major university will wonder if women are hard wired for sciences, where tons of money is spent on studies trying to find what makes a women in a patriarchy a women,-- on and-- on would be completely redundant.
