I was thinking the same thing.
Post a FGM thread? Some of the respondee's have think like this;(Picture my imaginary male friend, my real ones aren't this stupid) But..but...but males get CIRCUMCISED. We gotta bring that up and let everyone know what a fucked up thing this is. What's that you say? The whole what? Clitoris and labia? at the age of 6 or 7 without anesthesia? Well what's a clitoris, and what in the HELL is labia? Some chick's name? Ha ha. It's what? Oh, that. Gross man. I don't know man. Maybe they have a point. Anyway, little BABIES don't get anesthesia when they get circumcised, how wrong is that? It's bullshit man. Fuck those B******. They don't know what their talking about. All they do is fuckin' B**** about shit. We gotta so start thinking about Male Circumcision. But my own son man, I'll do it man, I'll do it 'cause I don't want other boys looking at him funny in gym. What if he never gets laid? Fuuuuuckk. It's still messed up though, and I'm gonna point in out to those b******
(I've seen it defended as a "cultural" practice as well. 5 dollars words for the same type of thinking)

5. You are funny. However, this was a major decision for my daughter |
|
about 5 years ago. After watching a video on the net of a newborn being circumcised, she and her husband (Who is circumcised and to whom she left the last word, since she felt he was more of an expert on that part of the male anatomy than she.) decided no and also for the second little male person. It seems to be a growing trend. Enough said.

it is a major decision. I have 2 boys, well young men now. My husband is kind of Jewish (he is but never goes to temple) so for him it had to be done. My pediatrician did it with a little bell instead of the cutting. I don't recall my boys ever acting like it hurt them and it worked really well. I was being silly and angry all at once and I never meant to make light of the decision.

It looked like a two part ring. One was larger than the other. The smaller one went over the glans and under the foreskin. The other was larger and went over the foreskin and they slowly just cut off the circulation. After a week or 10 days it falls off with the foreskin. I could not tell that there was any pain although I can't imagine if felt great. It did require some care, not too much but I think if it had hurt a lot they would have let me know. I have no idea really. I am guessing they don't use it anymore since nobody I know knows what I am talking about when I mention it. There was probably too large of an infection rate. The diapers had to be kept really dry. I was actually very grateful for this method. I could not have stood the cutting having seen it as a nurse.

9. my big problem is having Female Genital Mutilation equated with it |

...yeah having your clitoris removed with a razor blade and having perhaps your labia removed and sewed up like a present for your future husband to insure your virginity...boy that is surely the same...

10. As one of the few guys here who remembers my circumcision |
|
(I was 5 years old) I remember it being painful for a few days, but otherwise it was no big deal. No change or loss in function. No lasting discomfort.
The idea of comparing that to FGM boggles my mind. Maybe if the surgeon had sewn my penis to my abdomen it would be comparable. Then I couldn't masterbate or have sex without riping my penis loose first. That would preserve my sexuality until someone else decided it was appropriate. That would also make it obvious whether or not I had managed to be sexual. That definitely seems like it would be the far more comparable situation.
I think the people who compare circumcision to FGM are simply trying to belittle the seriousness of FGM because they seriously lack enough empathy to really care.
