Not a fantastic game played by the U.S. by any means. Eddie Johnson got himself caught offsides way too many times, though he did have a near-goal and also was unfairly denied a PK for a should-have-been-called takedown. DeMarcus Beasley has been hustling, but he looks almost lost handling and shooting the ball. Bobby Convey, who played so well as a starter in the Venezuela game, was choppy as a second-half sub.
Hero of the match: Brian McBride, after receiving a gigantic knot on his forehead the size of an egg following a collision, gamely stayed in the game and scored the game-winner on an aggresive header.
