1. Outstanding goal, now how about the best save ever? |

Sure everyone on this forum has seen it, but worth another look. Colombia vs. England friendly in 1995, at Wembley no less ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCxe4r6SjH0

Nothing more. Remeber the game well, and it needed something like that to wake it up. Now, the real greatest save... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVrQxIMRjVM

8. I hoped it would be Banks before I clicked on the link |

Too true oldironside!
There is a terrible dearth of talent among English goalkeepers at the moment. The days of a Banks, Clemence or Shilton are long gone sadly.
THAT Gordon Banks save just keeps getting better no matter how often you see it.

I read an interview with him once where he said the last thing he thought before he dived was: "Err, I could be in trouble here."
The golden era is gone. I remember when our 1,2,3 was Shilton, Clements, Corrigan. Not a bad trio.
Robert Green may be the best of the current bunch (he does, after all, get plenty of practice at my beloved West Ham), otherwise it's Man U#s number 3 or Calamity James. Oh, dear.

Roberto Carlos thought he could replicate that goal. People expected it of him. He went through a little purple patch and then spent his entire career trying to score THAT goal again, with gradually more depressing results. The number of times a free-kick was wasted because Roberto Carlos skied the ball out of the stadium was extraordinary.
Still, it was a great goal.....
The Wembley Stadium save was hilarious. I saw that match live. It turned out to be one of the more memorable moments of Jamie Redknapp's sadly injury-curtailed England career. Higuita certainly knew how to liven up a dull friendly!
