| Angel Food Ministries Pick Up date |
|
This whole week I felt like a kid waiting for Santa.
I got up early to go get my goodies & took a big box like I had been instructed. I was concerned that I wouldn't have enough room in my freezers (one with the fridge & small, first runner-up, freezer). I had been warned that they give you "too much food."
I needn't have worried. My entire order was placed in an old copy paper box & easily fit into my fridge's freezer compartment. Mind you, it IS a lot of food for one person & maybe 2. This will feed me for at least a month. (In fact, I made lunch from some of what I brought home.)
If you need help stretching the food bill, please consider using the program. $30/month for a box of food is a great deal.

commented on your last post about this. I gave the link to a few people that were in desperate need of something like this. I went to find out if there was a pick up place anywhere near here. The MD ones would of cost that much in gas to get to. I finally found one in PA that is not too far for them. I am going to see if maybe Ray of Hope would want to become a pick up place since they already help so many families. Thanks for posting it because we never heard of it here.

I hadn't heard of it either, until there was a write-up in the local paper.

| 3. What do you think of the quality of the food so far? |
|
(yes, I know it is only Day 1)
I'm seriously considering getting an order in for February at a local church that participates. I showed this to my mother and she's also interested, though she doesn't have a local participating church, so I may get a second regular unit for her as well.
Please, keep us updated.

I had two of the beef patties yesterday (lunch & dinner) & sampled the green beans (yum) & french fries (yum). The "dessert item" is one of those frozen chocolate cake things, & it's good as well. The frozen meat has labels stating it was packaged for Angel Food Ministries in Georgia. The apples are the small Rome apples, & that's fine because I love winesaps & empires & the romes are similar to those.
I went grocery shopping to supplement what I got & got out of the grocery store for $3.31. :wow:

| 6. Great price and lots of food, but unfortunately |
|
I am a vegetarian and what you get is all meat. But my neighbor buys it and also gives some to another neighbor, a single mother with 2 small children, who doesn't earn much money.

I have a cousin who could use this, but she too is a vegetarian.

| 8. Let the single mother know |
|
that they do take food stamps for the packages too. I know of a few food stamp recipients who reserve their basket every month.

| 9. Well, I placed my first order with Angel Food Ministries today |
|
The pickup date for me is February 29th, just under two weeks away. I went all out and ordered not only the base unit, but specials #1 and #2, #1 will be for my mother, the prime rib steaks (#2) for myself. It's just under two weeks until pickup date and I'm stoked, for $49 this will be more than enough protein for the month. I was so impressed with the operation at the church that I went to that I will probably volunteer with them when they need help.

| 10. I am going to check it out for the May 31 pickup. |

Unfortunately there is not a single location for Orange County, CA. So I need to drive to Riverside County (not really that far, and I have other things to do in Riverside Co that I can do at the same time).

I haven't gone yet but the kids I was worried about did. Kids=young mom and dad with 8 month old baby making $10 an hour in pay, have to drive about 35 miles to work so you know the finances are tough. They were thrilled with the first pick up and said it was more than enough for them for a month. Young mom is now trying to talk the local Mennonite church into doing it which would be even better since they have to go to PA now. They have also been good at getting the word out to other young families and the local non-profits that provide help for those that need it.
