Great book to read: Better Off by Eric Brende
I just finished reading this. A young couple spends a year and a half living in an Amish community without electricity, takes up farming, has a baby (home birth). Not strictly about frugality, but since going off-grid or downscaling our dependence on fossil fuels/energy is relevant to this forum I thought it was worth a mention.

He makes and sells soap at the local farmers market as well as running a rikshaw business in dow ntown St. Louis. He and his wife are wonderful people.

2. I was saddened to read in the book about how they had to give up
their dream of farming because of her allergy to horses...........
