but when I got mine there were 3 choices. Aiko (something like that) Maytag & I think Frigidaire had just come out with one.

I just had to have someone come in and fix my top loader ( I inherited them) and he was saying the front loaders are having problems and not to buy them. THought he was full of it but wanted to hear from others about it...glad to hear the Maytags are worth it. I am SO selling this set for those!!!

8. No problems with our front loaders...

We had one in each house - one 5 years old, one 2 years old. Both work great. Someone sounds like he was a bit sour grapey... I know that Maytag has required serious education to be certified to repair and maybe he didn't get the certification.

I have been see these for a while and would like an unbiased opinion of their usefulness and functionality.

Also, can you clue me in as to HOW is works (not how well). I guess what I really want to know is what do they mean when they say "rotate for a few minutes". In you experience does that mean 2 minutes or 20 minutes.

It really does mean two minutes, not 20, and if you make sure you have a full load it's really pretty easy to rotate as well. With a small load everything sloshes around inside and it's hard to rotate. My first load was my dog's potty pads and all the reusable cleaning cloths I've been using to clean up when she has peed elsewhere, so it was a load full of urine, and it came clean. I did have to do an extra rinse b/c i used too much soap, but that was all. I like it so much I'm even volunteering to do my roommate's laundry, lol.

The dryer is even better. Clothes still come out slightly damp, but barely. On a full load, the spin dryer will suck like two liters of water out of the clothes. It's amazing, and again only takes 2-3 minutes. The best part is that it also pulls out with it any soap and dirt that the rinse cycle didn't get out, unlike heat dryers that just dry it onto the clothes. Even in my cold house, pretty much everything can then dry hanging overnight.

Doing a load of laundry this way is a little more labor intensive, but it is actually saving me time because instead of waiting a half hour for the washer to finish and then an hour for the dryer, I can wash, spin dry, and then leave them to hang all in 15-20 minutes tops. None of this hour and a half waiting game. It works a lot better with my schedule, since I'm not in my house for extended periods of time and sometimes end up leaving clothes in the regular washer or dryer so long that I have to wash them again (mildew) or dry them again (wrinkles and mildew).

I have back and neck problems and I've managed fine so far, but it really depends probably on what kind of problems. The dryer on the other hand shouldn't be an issue.

Gee, you should see how much money I am saving lately - buying so many compact fluorescent bulbs, e-heaters and now possibly this. If I saved any more money (buying all these items) I am not sure what I would do.

PS I do know I will be saving money in the long run but ouch!

16. Has anyone spent the bucks

On the Dryer that has capacity on top to hang delicates that are to be air dried, but get some warm air from the dryer of other things?

I still have a washer with top load. I'd like to get washer with a front load, but cannot justisfy cost when I have owned one for 15 years and still, nothing is wrong with it.

Any thoughts?

17. It's kinda silly to pay $300 for a box when you could spend a buck for

a clothes line.

I don't use a dryer at all, for anything, even in cold weather. It causes too much damage to clothes and fabrics.

20. I'm going to make serious use of solar drying this year

I have one of the umbrella style clotheslines and am going to install it in an area with full sun. I remember using clotheslines back in the 70s. we had about 3 or 4 lines. When I'd finish filling the last line, some clothes on the first line were already dry. Our Colorado sun is strong.

21. Just remember not to hang your blacks in the sun, and turn your dark

colors inside out. This should also be done when washing them. It makes a big difference on the color preservation.

I live on a boat and had seen this advertised, but wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money if it was just junk. Now I am going to get one. Presently, I can only do laundry once a month or so, when we come into town. Now I can do it more frequently which means less clothes on the boat!
