As Audi and Peugeot prepare to continue their rivalry for outright victory in this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans in June, Jaguar will return to the French endurance classic for the first time since the XJ220 raced there 15 years ago, the Automobile Club de l'Ouest confirmed.
The ACO, the event promoter, revealed the 55 accepted entries for its 2010 race on Thursday, 15 days after entries closed.
RSR team boss and Jaguar driver Paul Gentilozzi said that his team has technical support from Jaguar in the U.K. and financial input from Jaguar USA. Gentilozzi's GT2 Jaguar XKR, which RSR first raced in the 2009 American Le Mans Series finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, will also be used for a full ALMS program this year, and we expect that Tata, the brand's Indian owner, will be watching closely. Jaguar transformed its image via five Le Mans wins in the 1950s ('51, '53, '55, '56, '57) and two more in 1988 and '90, and Tata has publicly stated that it is evaluating a future Le Mans project.
