| After applying for a job/internship... |
|
Is it inappropriate to call and check on the status of your application?

| 2. I wasnt sure if follow up calls annoyed HR... |

I applied for 3-4 Summer Internships at T. Rowe Price, but Im not exactly sure how/when to make the follow up call. I failed to do so when I applied for an internship at Legg Mason, and I believe it may have cost me...

| 3. Just call up HR and see if they know anything. If you got along |
|
with someone really well with the interview and they gave you their phone number, call them second. It just shows you're interested in the job. And the last few years, the employers aren't even bothering to call you and tell you that you didn't get the job. Really sad.
I was going for an interview yesterday. A lady came in to HR and asked about the job she got in Oct. They called her in and told her she got the job. She went through orientation. And they said they'd call with the date and times she was suppose to start. She's still waiting. She calls & comes in about every other week to see what's going on and she can't get an answer.
Just remember to always sound cheerful and upbeat and friendly when you call to see what the status is.
Good luck.

| 4. Any suggestions on how long I should wait to make the call...? |
|
Any other questions I should ask besides what is the status of my application?

| 5. I'd wait a week. Other questions would be if they need more |

information. Or who should you contact if they're not the right people. HR is usually helpful and cheerful, so it's easy to start there. Their whole reason for being is to get people hired.

| 6. I would think that it's appropriate... |

I sympathize with you on the internship thing..I've applied for approx. 6 and no definitive answers from anyone yet. Just "we'll be calling soon for interviews", "contact you if there are openings". Some of them are out of state and I'll need to find housing, so it's driving me crazy.
Best of luck to you..

Where are you applying?
Ive applied at numerous investment banking firms including T Rowe, Legg Mason, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, and a few smaller regional firms...
Not a single response.
Im sure Im qualified for at least an interview. I have solid work experience and a decent academic background. Its really frustrating, mostly because, I know if my dad or uncle worked at any of these firms, I would have NO PROBLEM landing an internship and full-time position upon graduation.

political science and television. So I applied to major networks..CBS, NBC, MTV networks, etc. I'm sure those places are swamped with applications, so I'm not surprised. But, to go along with my political science major, I applied with a local congressman, a nonprofit, and the county gov't...these are definately lower demand, but I'm still waiting to hear from them.

| 9. I'd say it's mandatory |
|
Distinguishes the business oriented. Tell them you have them in your contact program and are checking for status.
Often, the call backs are culled froma list of who followed up.
