| Performance review time! UGH! |
|
Well, it's that time of year again where we are expected to review ourselves. Strengths, weaknesses, etc. You know the drill.
Anyone have any key phrases I can use other than "I'm damned good at my job!" Or any other suggestions that are not the typical jargon!
Thanks in advance.

My one year anniversary at my job is tomorrow. We don't actually have a formal evaluation process, but I just got a talking to by my boss; apparently, I rubbed some people the wrong way at work the past week (got frustrated when they didn't give me the info. I needed for the company newsletter and they bitched about it...long story). Guess I won't be asking for that raise after all...

| 2. Well, I hope that you boss |

takes into consideration your whole year's performance rather than a few colleagues' comments within the past week.
Be sure to point out all of your accomplishments, how well you do your job, etc. A performance review is NOT the time to be humble.
Even though you may not have any weaknesses (the bosses love this one) think of something, even if it's small and outline how it is your goal to improve.
Also, think of initiatives/projects for your department/company that will improve the overall organization, and how you'll be instrumental in accomplishing this goal.
I've got one day left to write my review. I know when I get started the accolades with flow (LOL), but it's just getting myself to put fingers to keyboard.
Good luck on your review.

I have no idea what's going at at my place. Sounds like the big boss is, in my boss's words, "in a major funk" and I shouldn't take it personally; however, when other people are bitching about you, it's hard not to, eh?
I'm gonna try to lay low and in the meantime, maybe keep my eye on the classifieds just-in-case.

| 4. I hate these types of self-evaluations. |

It always turns out that the people who are the best at bragging and talking themselves up get better raises than those who are modest and unassuming. At my company, a lot of the best workers were quiet, modest people and wouldn't get the raises they deserved because it just wasn't in their nature to talk themselves up.
My company used to make us rate ourselves on a number scale. I got sick of it and started just giving myself the top rating every time. I think a lot of others did the same and they finally did away with the rating system. Now we just have to list our accomplishments, which isn't quite as bad.
Good luck. Hope you get a decent raise.
