When the 110 employees at Silver Lake Nursing Center in Bristol, Pennsylvania, and the Town Manor nursing home in Norristown, Pennsylvania voted to join the RWDSU last year, they did it to address a number of issues that had plagued the workforce for years. They had no retirement benefits whatsoever, stagnant wages, and no say on the job. Thanks to their first RWDSU contracts, that has changed, and the employees have a strong foundation for improvements in the future.
Wages will increase every six months over the life of the two-year agreements, and a 401K plan has been created for all of the workers. In addition, with a union contract comes seniority protocols and protection against the favoritism and unfair treatment that the workers sought to end when they joined RWDSU Local 1034.
The new contracts were ratified with 100 percent votes.
