DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Hundreds of labor activists are planning a Statehouse rally to show support for Wisconsin public workers who are fighting efforts to end collective bargaining rights.
Danny Homan, who heads the largest union representing state workers, says Iowa activists organized Tuesday's rally at the last moment and don't expect a huge turnout.
Although the rally is to support Wisconsin workers, Homan says more rallies may be staged to protest anti-union legislation that is advancing in the Iowa Legislature.
A measure in the Iowa House would change the state's collecting bargaining law to end a requirement that health insurance be an issue that's bargained.
Tama Republican Rep. Lance Horbach says most of the collective bargaining law would be retained.
