Operators of a rock quarry near Fort Calhoun have been fined by OSHA for a safety violation after the June death of an employee who was helping to battle Missouri River floodwaters.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration ordered Martin Marietta Materials Inc. to pay a $7,000 fine after an investigation into the June 9 death of James McGauley, 58, of Blair.
Bonita Winingham, director of the OSHA office in Omaha, said Wednesday that the owners of the rock quarry have indicated they intend to appeal the citation.
A spokesman at the Martin Marietta office in Des Moines said the company has no comment.
